Bunch of retarded monkeys.
I'm gonna trademark fark and sue fark for the domain.
2002-01-02 7:53:47 AM
Too late, I just did.

Correct usage of the

the asshole doesn't even care that he is trying his hardest to distort the already farked-up laws involving the internet.

Unicom...give me a break, what is that name supposed to mean anyway? One com??? What is a com? A computer, commerce, commercial, comodity, comedy??? How OmniCom, guy? I wish I could punch THIS monkey.

oh, good morning everyone...I see you finally decided to come into the office nice.

How is it that 1990 is "before they existed" if the company has been around since 1981?
2002-01-02 8:06:51 AM
I had a viewmaster viewer that I wrote X10 on in magic marker in 1976. I smell lawsuit.
2002-01-02 8:09:31 AM
I predict the winner in this one:
The Lawyers.
2002-01-02 8:13:07 AM
Although, let me live vicariously, and hopes that he chops the company off at the knees...nothing more satisfying than bringing down the corporate pimps.

"Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work."

I wonder what would have happened if Chip were a citizen of, and/or had resided in, a country other than the US. Then again, it already sucks enough that he had to get representation in California

Page 3, #6) "Since at 1989, UNICOM has continuously used the name "UNICOM" blah blah blah..."

Oh yeah? What the fark were they doing for 11 years then? The whois entry shows clearly that the domain was registered in 1990 and since UNICOM wasn't a big-guy then, the Chip-man prolly didn't even know they existed. What a bunch of losers. I hope the judge orders the UNICOM company to give him $10000000000!!!!

This guy is obviously a menace to society and needs to be locked away for a long, long time.

Yes I want a preview thingee too!

I like the part in the complaint where they accuse his website of looking "amateurish." HAW HAW!

Welcome to the club.

I've already got Fark trademarked. Did that first
2002-01-02 9:00:13 AM
Please also send me 5 dollars. I have also been hassled by the man.
2002-01-02 9:00:34 AM
Wise move, Drew

Better run and hide, Appie!
2002-01-02 9:06:34 AM
I just received the notification that the trademark was already registered. I did not start the lawsuit yet, so no reason to run, leave alone hide.
2002-01-02 9:09:17 AM
I would have thought you'd be faster than that, Appie...
2002-01-02 9:10:04 AM
Drew - means you can sue anyone who denigrates Fark ... which would probably sound something like this defamation of Stile. Heh.

- "Fark - where the elite goes for intellectual news."
- "Sir! I must protest! It's *not* news!" [suesuesue]
2002-01-02 9:17:39 AM
Its the web. Free flow of information and all that.. who cares who registered what domain name? He registered it first, its his. Don't even get me started on the lawyers.
2002-01-02 9:19:47 AM
Have you seen their site? Amateurish indeed with the goofy slideshow of their new "aquisition". Seems they bought themselves an architecturally noted office complex or something. They keep going on about how "important" this work of nature and art is. Then they get all the employees rounded up and have a hoedown!
What a sensitive company.
2002-01-02 9:20:58 AM
This guy is a Farker. I got to this site through a bio once.
Kevin Spacey lost when he tried to get his name back from someone in a similar suit.
I wouldn't want to fark with Kevin Spacey. He'll put your wife's head in a box.

If I set up a website where I whine and complain constantly about some farcical lawsuit will you people waste your precious time looking at it, signing my guestbook, and possibly donating to the link that says "Donate to the Legal Fund"?
2002-01-02 10:00:45 AM
Damn, this sucks for Chip. The irony is, I've met the guy before, and he's a really decent guy. He's got a hell of a lot more integrgrity than I do too. (not that that says a lot) If he didn't have a legitimate claim here, he'd have turned the name over a long time. Isn't there some precident for this that supports him already though? I remember a case or two showcased right here on Fark a little while ago about "reverse domain hijacking" where the corporations lost easily. So, maybe there's hope yet, eh?

Drew - How much did it end up costing you to get Fark trademarked in the end? I've heard it gets expensive.
2002-01-02 10:22:22 AM
Actually, the company that was Unicom for longer was the company that owned Commonwealth Edison (the notorious ComEd) which served the Chicago area. They probably don't care about the trademark anymore, since they merged with someone else and became Exelon.
2002-01-02 11:19:36 AM
Chipr - Just curious ... would you have considered selling, had you been approached with an offer rather than a threat?
2002-01-02 11:44:25 AM
Chipr They say that you offered an 'extortianate' offer to sell for $50,000. Is that accurate (not that it
makes any difference).

This suit is a joke, even the first section of the suit complaint mentions that you DBA under Unicom Systems...

I think there is a Unicom up here in Dayton too. (At least there was)
2002-01-02 11:46:16 AM
yep... (nearby, anyway)

This site is amateurish, are they being sued also?
2002-01-02 11:54:43 AM
Ah :)

(I'm just thinking I would take the money rather than the date ... hum ... maybe Winona Ryder ... or Helena Bonham Carter ... )

I've only ever gotten polite questions about my domains, and what I've been doing is giving all askers free linkage. Waiting for the suit, tho.
... Good luck with yours.
2002-01-02 12:02:16 PM
This suit is a joke, even the first section of the suit complaint mentions that you DBA under Unicom Systems...

I know im being anal but please.... say "DBA Unicom Systems" and not "DBA under Unicom Systems." its like saying PIN number.
2002-01-02 6:04:13 PM
Is this a joke or what? And why is the date on the "12-14-2000 letter" actually December 19, 2001? Call me cynical or overly cautious, but this seems like an april fools joke, except that it isn't April :) I wonder how much this guy has received in donations so far for his legal fees.........
