Never bring a cucumber to a tangerine fight.
2001-12-28 1:10:37 PM
How/When did Ol' Dirty Bastard open a liquor store...isn't he still in jail?
2001-12-28 1:11:09 PM
Never bring a coont to a cock fight.
2001-12-28 1:11:31 PM
Hey Dirty, Baby I got your money.
2001-12-28 1:11:51 PM
But I thought guns were an ineffective way to deter criminals.

Good for them. Ill bet that store never gets robbed during operating hours again.
2001-12-28 1:12:31 PM
Not really Fark material, this is. I suspect someone had ulterior motives. Hmm!
2001-12-28 1:12:42 PM
BEtter rule would be: Never go to Dorchester. HEre in Boston (and a few other places around the country, i suppose, but I'm not there) we have Duck Tours, whereby you go sightseeing on the river on a WWII amphibious landing craft. They thought about extending tours into the Deadchester area, but couldn't get their hands on enough WWII Sherman tanks.
2001-12-28 1:16:06 PM
Ctenidae: they have duck tours in Pittsburgh too. The horn sounds like a duck quacking.
2001-12-28 1:19:52 PM
They have them in Hot Springs, AR too- same annoying tourist habit- Quacking at any other tourist stupid enough to wave at them.
Do they block up traffic in the busiest parts of town at the worst possible time in Pittsburgh, too? Saw one take out the side of a bus the other day. They built those things to last.
2001-12-28 1:19:54 PM
Dorchester, Roxbury, Jamaica Plain

"Why would you wanna go they-ah? They sell crack they-ah, ya know..."
2001-12-28 1:30:33 PM
Bass- That's why you go there, of course. Ever since the War Zone got cleaned up a bit.
2001-12-28 1:30:45 PM
"Police have not filed any charges against the clerks."

Hmm. Sounds like the writer thinks they should...
2001-12-28 1:32:16 PM

Do you suppose they should have opened a dialogue instead? Tried to understand their feelings and understand their reasons for doing it? That way they could come up with some alternatives or possibly a support group for them. Or maybe federal aid programs. lol

Good thing I have a Kevlar Bears jersey for this weekend.
2001-12-28 1:33:35 PM

More like a dumbass.

I love this kind of crap. The clerks are going to get honorary memberships in the NRA, and get to star in one of their ads now.
2001-12-28 1:33:53 PM
Too bad those clerks were not better shots.

"Happpy Holidays Mutha Farker!!!" BLAM BLAM BLAM!!!!!
2001-12-28 1:34:26 PM us your guns!
2001-12-28 1:42:31 PM
"I'll be takin' these Huggies, and any cash you got back there."
2001-12-28 1:46:53 PM
MrTuffPaws, they may be dumbasses, but they are dumbasses that didn't killed by some dumbass with a knife.

But if you would rather do nothing, except beg for your life, that is up to you.
2001-12-28 1:47:18 PM
Raising Arizona... Son you got a panty on your head
2001-12-28 1:49:50 PM
First thing I thought of when I read this article is the look on the clerk's face in RA as he's shooting at HI with that huge gun.
2001-12-28 1:58:22 PM
Everyone knows that the robbers would have stood there and waited if the clerks told them they were calling police. After all, it is not up to the citizenry to protect themselves, it is up to the government.

I bet the crooks obtained their knives at a knife show, so there should be a mandatory 7 day waiting period for the purchase of all knives. There should also be a background check on said purchases with their names being added to a national database of knife owners. Then again, I bet the crooks wouldn't have obtained the knife used in the ARMED robbery and assualt (one of the clerks was stabbed according to article) through any legal channels had their been such necessary laws in the first place.
2001-12-28 1:59:29 PM
YOu know your right they should have just given the crooks the money. In fact the police should have provided them safe escort to their homes after they robbed the store to make sure they did not get in a wreck. If we keep trying to catch or punish these criminals it will only hurt them and they are just as important as the people they are robbing. More so in fact cause they must have had such a tough childhood to make them this upset at society. Those bastards that twarted the robbers should be put to death. what were they thinking those sick evil thoughtless farks
2001-12-28 2:02:29 PM
see people, this is why guns are a good thing.

Go liquor-shop clerks!
2001-12-28 2:09:21 PM
Guns should be outlawed. No one should be able to own guns. Except for me. I would be alright with that. You see, that way, I wouldn't have to worry about getting shot, but I could still threaten other people with my big gun. Yes, all guns should be outlawed, unless they are for me.
2001-12-28 2:18:19 PM
Guns give me the runs
2001-12-28 2:26:07 PM
where iApparent Nuisance when we don't need him....he he if guns are so goddamn easy to obtain, and we need more laws to "protect" us from their danger, than what the hell were these "robbers" thinking trying to rob a store with puny knives..... dont they know that guns grow on trees
2001-12-28 2:41:53 PM
Big mistake to shoot them and not kill them. Now they will either sue the owners of the store, or come back with guns of their own to seek revenge.
2001-12-28 2:45:32 PM
Damnit, what a waste of my farking tax dollars. If these liquor store assholes would have had a little more target practice, I wouldn't be paying to keep some dumbass robbers in the hospital. This is why gun owners need to be properly trained. Now there is going to be a trial and jail costs and all kinds of shiat. Damnit, if your going to keep a gun learn to shoot accurately.
Back in the day I worked in a strip mall. The liquor store at the end got robbed at gun point one night. He gave the crook the money. When the crook turned around he pulled a .357 and put 6 very large holes in his back. The liquor store was never robbed again, and no one paid for a trial or hospital stay. Now that is a real
2001-12-28 2:47:49 PM
Crooks getting shot = funny.

Dumb crooks getting shot = funnier

Dumb crooks getting shot and killed = funniest
2001-12-28 2:48:52 PM
Score One for the Concealed Pistol Permit proponents.
2001-12-28 3:16:15 PM
I'm surprised it happened like that... since the guy was shot in the back 6 times, I'm surprised they didn't arrest the liquor store guy for 2nd degree. (Of course, I applaud the guy, regardless.)
2001-12-28 3:22:10 PM
has something to do with the fact that his life had been threatened, which gives him the right to use deadly force.
2001-12-28 3:26:49 PM
This is a surprisingly tame thread. Did all the trolls take the day off? Maybe there should be a [TROLLBAIT] tag.
2001-12-28 3:32:45 PM
When I was in college I was working graveyard at a Texaco minimart. One night a coupla dipshiat high schoolers tried a beer run on me. The store had a switch behind the counter that activated large magnets on the doors that kept them closed. The first kid hit the door hard and his friend ran into the back of him. I was laughing so hard at them on the floor with beer cans scattered, I could hardly dial the cops (who didn't do jack).
Then the next week another clerk tried the same thing except the perp pulled out a gun and beat him unconcious with it. That clerk got stitches and I quit using that lock and started taking my handgun to work (against Texaco policy).
Any farking scumbag that decides to steal from someone deserves what they get...protect yourself, the police can't.
2001-12-28 3:35:12 PM
Hey now, let's not give those terrorists any ideas, they might start using guns now! Oh no!
2001-12-28 3:38:30 PM
Cheers and applause. The only reason I don't have a gun is I'm such a doofus, I would shot myself in the foot. But enough about me. Let me but the clerks a beer.
2001-12-28 4:12:03 PM
Finally, a story about guns being used to protect.
2001-12-28 4:24:41 PM
SomecallmeTim has it nailed down.
If someone comes into my place of employment threatening to kill me with a weapon, and I were so fortunate to be armed, It would be hard to stop at wounding them. I have more of a right to go home to my family than the perps have to STEALING MY GOODS AND KILLING THE WITNESS'.
Mr Tuff Paws-not a slam, but seriously, what would you have done if placed in that situation?
2001-12-28 4:48:41 PM
Arbi: Another important point is to use the phrase "I was in fear for my life" or something that conveys the same message. It's important to not act like a tough guy. If you say the farker deserved to die or some such thing, your ass is going to jail. You may beat it in court, but it's best to avoid that situation and act traumatized. Most people would find it traumatic, but people react differently to seeing a person killed. Some pretend to be hard, and that's a mistake. I have quite a few friends in law enforcement who have given me that advice. I hope I never need it...
2001-12-28 4:52:25 PM
As a former MP, we were taught to a warning shot...shoot to wound and then...shoot to kill. I would say that a well placed "warning shot"(like a head shot) was ample warning. Seriously though... when the first shot is one knows where that first shot went...into the ground or into the perps chest... and, as I seem to remember reading...'Dead men tell no tales'
2001-12-28 4:52:50 PM
Yeah, no charges were brought against him. I was a little surprised since it was in CA, which is pretty anit-gun, and the fact that the suspect was fleeing at the time and was hit in the back. Then again, I only got his version of the story, what the police found or reported could be different.
2001-12-28 4:54:43 PM
I don't carry a gun anymore, hardly needed at a programming shop.

'bout 20 years ago, when I worked a better job (gas station, late shift) I had some idiot tell me to give me all the money, expletive, and he said he had a gun.

It was very late and I asked him to repeat that as I was a bit sleepy, and politely, he did.

I then fast drawed my smith & wesson 44 mag stainless and aiming at his forehead invited him to notice that I had one too, and that mine was much bigger than his.

As he was running across the lot I invited him back to stay the night, but he decided he did not have the time.

Not a shot was fired, a 44 is just too damn big of a gun to start trying to punch holes in punks within an area that has a backdrop of residential housing.

The first policeman on the scene asked why I didn't kill the perp, I told him that, since I was a viet nam veteran, I knew the difference between a war zone and the street. He shook his head.

The next week I started to carry a smaller caliber handgun, but we were never robbed after that, so I guess that didn't matter.
2001-12-28 4:59:53 PM
You used a 44 mag for a carry weapon? Damn!
2001-12-28 5:09:32 PM

Yeah, but this one's a 4 inch with pachmhyr grips, kick wise it is less awesome than the 410 derringer I carried a couple of years ago.

I have always figured that if your handgun can knock out the enemies car (fireing straight down through the hood should bust up the carb) then you can leave the area without having to shoot someone. Also, if you do shoot someone with a 44 they are less likely to sue.
2001-12-28 5:20:58 PM
I'm also surprised that the shooting-in-the-back guy was not charged. Generally if the guy is leaving the store, your life is not in danger.

Technically, yeah, they should have given the crooks the money, in that it's better to lose money than to die trying to save the $200 in the drawer. But if I were the store owner, I would be saying that in public and giving the store clerks a fat raise in private.
2001-12-28 5:43:49 PM
Yay!Guns kick ass!
2001-12-28 5:46:39 PM
Mythago "they should have given the crooks the money, in that it's better to lose money than to die trying to save the $200 in the drawer."

While I would agree in general that my life is worth more than the cash in any drawer, I have read situations where no matter how cooperative victims have been, they were killed. At what point during an armed robbery do you know for sure you are safe? (I do not advocate shooting them in the back BTW) Add to that the fact that when someone is threatening your life, and your adrenaline is pumping and you mind is racing, there is little time for moral and ethical debate. I don't know what I would do in this situation. I would like to think I would do whatever it took to protect my family and myself. I would like much better to never have to find out.
