Humans have been eating ground birds for thousands of years before domesticated breeds became common.

That's because they were...

Yeah, humans domesticated them and kept them as pets for 8,000 years before considering eating them, because chickens are such great pets...
Bullshiat! Virtually everything on the planet has been food for humans when ever they felt the need, including other humans.
Lovely article!

Surely we at least ate the eggs before we started eating them. Eating the chicken might have been considered a waste, since you were losing a perfectly good egg dispenser.

This seems to be an idiotic statement. Humans have been eating anything they could catch for hundreds of thousands of years

Link is farked for me, but seems likely folks have been farm raising various partridges and jungle fowl for tens of thousands of years.

They are certainly fun to hunt and many are quite tasty.

Oh, so very much this.  Also, I think there's at least some documentary evidence to discredit the claim.  Finally, the testing of both human and chicken bones to show that they shared similar diets is explained by anyone who has ever kept chickens outside of an industrial setting:  Chickens are omnivores, and it's cheaper to give them table scraps than buy them food.  Yeah, chickens had a similar diet; they got the leftovers!

If you define "as of late" as 1991, then yes, that's what they've been using as of late.  I'd define that as "a couple decades."

I believe that chicken was first eaten by a human when someone hungry enough thought, "Whatever I catch I'm going to eat."

Or you ate it when the chicken died of old age (stewing?), or if by some chance the chicken was killed.

Beginning at least 5,400 years ago [1] the chicken (Gallus gallus) was domesticated through the purposeful segregation and taming of a few individuals acquired from wild Junglefowl populations in Southeast Asia.

http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0039171

Prehistoric chickens were globally dispersed by the Polynesians, which was the first step in the global distribution of the chicken. And prehistoric chickens were delicious.

This research is CLEARLY insane.   If Humans domesticated Chickens 10,000 years ago, then chicken was on humanity's menu VERY shortly thereafter.   Even if chickens were primarily kept for their eggs,  it's a tradition as old as farming that an older chicken gets tossed in the stewpot when it stops laying, and since you only need one or two roosters per chicken yard, and excess males that get born quickly become a food source because otherwise they will fight for dominance of the flock at some point

I freaking HATE Chick-fil-a.. It's not bad food, I just don't get the hype.. The farking line wraps around the building.. It's chicken people.. with pickles.. what is the big freaking deal? It's a sad society..

It seems to me that this place caters to younger adults who grew up eating chicken nuggets/fingers and pasta with butter because GOD FORBID THE FOOD ON YOUR PLATE TOUCHES EACH OTHER..

SHUT UP.. No phone for a week. sigh...

There's two in Magnolia, one in Springhill, LA, and I think one in Haynesville, LA.

Mrs. The Killer has kinfolk in Springhill, so we go that way. But I only go to the Magnolia one on Main St. I don't know why it's so much better, but it is IMO.

Someone once told me they weren't allowed to call their product chicken anymore. That kinda sounds like an urban myth now.

I think the argument isn't "nobody ate chicken for the first 50-75% of their history of domestication" but rather "poultry as a staple food source is a relatively recent invention and that the use of chickens for sport and rituals was more prominent than we would think."

They can be hypnotized. We did this when I was a kid. We were going for our record (around six, I think) when my spotted us doing it and ran out of the house shouting "what are you doing to my chickens?" That scared them away.

They changed their name to KFC, as an attempt to get out of the regional branding. Not too long after the official change they ran that whole "Kitchen Fresh Chicken" while pushing their grilled chicken.
