Yawn.

2001-12-27 11:25:47 AM
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz . . .

2001-12-27 11:32:13 AM
How does that work if you get points for your credit card purchases? Is Sony going to give me a half point? Do airline cards give a half-mile?

2001-12-27 11:36:32 AM
You think credit card fraud is a problem now...

2001-12-27 11:39:41 AM
If you need to put a Pepsi on a card, you shouldn't be allowed to HAVE a credit card.

2001-12-27 11:42:43 AM
So now the machine will spit out my credit cards too.

2001-12-27 11:43:34 AM
Pepsi doesn't taste as good as Coke.

2001-12-27 11:44:18 AM
I hope that by reading the article I will find out WHY they are doing this.

2001-12-27 11:46:07 AM
Oh, inventory management seems to be a decent idea. It's still stupid.

2001-12-27 11:47:03 AM
Poll: which is better coke or pepsi?

2001-12-27 11:48:05 AM
They could do wireless inventory management without the use of a credit card. Build a smart pop machine and the problem is solved.

2001-12-27 11:51:38 AM
Thank good for atm/debit cards. I'd be lost without mine.

2001-12-27 11:52:22 AM
Why doesn't this have a Cool tag?

The sooner I can stop carrying around all this farking, shiatty paper currency, the better.

And I don't even drink pop/soda/coke.

Don't get me started on pennies, either. The day a piece of gum started costing five cents, the penny became obsolete.

2001-12-27 11:54:18 AM
Yeah, but do you know how many of my credit cards are folded at the corners? They'll never take 'em.

Maybe since it's new technology people will be punching holes in their cards and tying a string to 'em, so they can just yank 'em back out again.

Implausible logic? Maybe, but I still like cheese.

Soda makes you fat, hyperactive and rots your teeth.

2001-12-27 12:05:31 PM
I can see it now... some snot nosed 12 year old will pilfer my wallet and buy 227 cans of Mt.Dew

2001-12-27 12:15:49 PM
It's the all American dream, Fb-.

2001-12-27 12:17:13 PM
Obviously an idea started by the credit card companies. If the card is rejected, will the machine keep it? One scenario would be....Pepsi installs new credit card machine in a high school. Junior asks Mom to borrow the credit card. Mom forgets that she ran the card up at LL Ween. Junior tries to get a Pepsi from aforementioned machine, gets rejected....kids laugh....now known only as "Pepsi reject guy". It'll be a hoot.

2001-12-27 12:22:26 PM
Freddiemiles1, you are correct sir. pepsi is too sugary and has less carbonation. pepsi is like crack, coke is like weed.

2001-12-27 12:23:33 PM
if its gonna be a swipe system, itll have gum in it by the end of the first day.

2001-12-27 12:28:31 PM
I'm sorry but I think this is a good thing. I hate scraping around for change because I never carry cash any more. About farking time. Now get coke to do it and I'll be happy!

2001-12-27 12:31:21 PM
The bank won't let me have an atm/debit card anymore.

2001-12-27 12:31:36 PM
they already have ones in australia that you can use your cellphone to pay. yet one more step towards a cashless society. not quite as scary as the new Speedpass McDonalds though...

2001-12-27 12:42:53 PM
Mix this with the chip that some mad scientist inserted into his skin the other week and you've got one nifty way of paying for soda.

Oh, and some potentially gruesome crimes. Can you imagine criminals taking people's body parts to scan at machines to get a Pepsi?

2001-12-27 12:54:10 PM
Farking stupid, hasn't anyone ever heard of cash.

Sheeeet.

2001-12-27 12:55:12 PM
Surely Visa/MC will love thousands of sub-$1 credit card transactions a second added to its network. Pepsi will probably be sending a quarter of it to Visa/MC.

This is a good move for pepsi, though. It will increase their sales with young bastards like me that hardly ever have change or ones (or any cash) on me.

Some testing by mcdonald's found that by replacing some of their cashiers with kiosks that can take credit cards, customers spent more on average. Either they're not embarrased about the extra mayo, extra fries, and a diet coke, or it's not "real money," so it's easier to let go of it.

2001-12-27 12:58:17 PM
Price of soda with interest after the person pays the "minimum" for 12 years...$17.42.
Look on the person's face once they realize that...Priceless!

2001-12-27 12:59:35 PM
I'll tell you what...after stuffing a dollar bill into one of these machines 10 times with no results, I might just reach for the ATM card, even if does cost me $1 for the 12-ounce can of Pepsi, $1 for a "transaction fee," and $2 for the foreign ATM fee that subtly appears on my bank statement at the end of the month. Or maybe I'll just drive to 7-11 and get a 2-liter for 89 cents.

Convenience is king.

2001-12-27 1:01:27 PM
Byort: Although that's possible (not sure aboot the calculation) I have a sense that this is geared more towards the ATM/Debit card users.

2001-12-27 1:02:03 PM
Jeez. Using a credit card for a can of soda? Not smart.

Coke is better than Pepsi, but it's really hard to beat Faygo.

2001-12-27 1:10:33 PM
Now all they need is one that accepts PayPal.

2001-12-27 1:13:34 PM
You just can't mix Pepsi with Bacardi Gold. It doesn't taste right, It has to be Coke...although I prefer straight Pepsi over straight Coke.

2001-12-27 1:16:22 PM
Which brings me back to my original point:
Bite the Wax Tadpole.

2001-12-27 1:18:13 PM
pepsi machines ALREADY take visa cards. I saw them in Istanbul a month ago. They are in the metro stations.

By the way, FARK means "different" in Turkish.

2001-12-27 1:19:16 PM
In terms of technology like this, America is way behind. Places like Europe are allready five years ahead!

2001-12-27 1:21:47 PM
Mierk: You may be right, but the article only talks about credit cards. I'm too tired to extrapolate about other uses of the technology.

Bite the Wax Tadpole = FUNNY!!! I use that phrase on occasion to garner some odd looks in a casual conversation. God Bless poor translations!

Halfliquid,

Places like Europe are allready five years ahead!

For a group of people that is so much further ahead of us, they seem to have difficulty with the soap + water thing.

I'm not even going to start with the hairy women. Yikes.

2001-12-27 1:28:23 PM
Yes, HALFLIQUID. All my stereo components, televisions, phones, beepers, computers, etc, come from Europe.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

2001-12-27 1:50:30 PM
Just curious, but what brands scarneck? Just because they come from europe doesn't mean much.

What i hate about the pop machines is when you do have the change, and shuffel it all in. Then the machine says every thing is sold out & won't give you the money back.

2001-12-27 2:33:13 PM
There have been times I've wished that McDonald's had a little ATM kiosk next to their drive thru window so that I wouldn't have to drive to either the bank or an ATM to pull money out and then go through McDonald's (or Toxic Hell, or Windy's, etc etc etc). Perhaps it's because I have two small children and I'll take convenience any time I can get it!

Crack fiend,
A fine rum is meant to be complimented by a citris juice such as grapefruit, oj or pineapple. To taint such rum with a sweet, carbonated drink is to completely overwhelm the subtle spices that make rum, worth drinking.
Shame on you.

2001-12-27 3:21:21 PM
Will they also decline your card then confiscate and destroy it on the credit card company's say-so?

Will they?

2001-12-27 3:25:17 PM
In Canada we call it "pop".

2001-12-27 3:36:45 PM
Dllsgrlz: I drink Bacardi Select with pineapple juice. My taste buds prefer Bacardi Gold with Coke. On those not so happy days, drinking Gold straight will suffice. Then I can savor the subtle spices.

2001-12-27 3:59:14 PM
Well...I can give you the nod for the pineapple juice, but we really have to work on this Coke fetish of yours.
On those not so happy days, might I suggest a cool Bac/Pineapple and 2 Valiums?

2001-12-27 4:16:10 PM
WHY!?!!?!!!

2001-12-27 4:35:22 PM
Mc Donalds and Mc Pepsi suck, both part of the fast food nation. They want us to keep feeding ourselves their mc crap and they'll do whatever it takes to make that process easier. I'm betting all the major fast food places will soon have MC and Visa all over their doors. A good reason why fast food places are such easy targets for robberies: They only have cash, they are near every farking major intersection of highway and rest area making it conveninent to get away fast.

2001-12-27 5:15:05 PM
fast food nation, wasn't that a janet jackson album?

2001-12-27 5:22:01 PM
Coke tastes like ass... Pepsi takes 100x better... Which, take the taste of ass, and multiply it by 100... and you get somethin that tastes pretty good.
