my girlfriends backyard was ablaze yesterday, and all her mother could care about was that one corner of the trampoline got on tv, rendering it famous. Asshat.

Why is this headed 'Amusing' ??
Yesterday i couldnt see a building thats 3 blocks away because of the smoke from the Bushfires around Sydney. If this was in the US this would be major news, but because its on the other side of the world its 'Amusing' ..

I drove through a pall of smoke in Sydney while going up to the North Coast.

It was an eerie feeling; the highway was mostly obscured, and we watched other cars appear out of the gloom.

Our worry was that the road would be cut by fire and we'd have to turn back but we made it with no further trouble. Even here, 400 kms (at a guess, 300 miles) north of Sydney, smoke is in the air.
