sooo if they were hit in their car, how were they "bystanders?"

Just an observation.

When I hear bystanders, I think of people standing by. (not like "operators are standing by")

Oh yeah, All your post are belong to first.

2001-12-26 4:47:46 AM

No one needs to watch it, I can't see any legitament reason for it...

"Cigarettes and beer were lying next to the pick-up truck at the scene of the accident. "

Oh, so he wasn't just drunk, he was a SMOKER! Damn criminal.

2001-12-26 4:56:35 AM
Oh, and it's a Nissan Sentra. Great editors, there.

I live in Houston... and I am ashamed at the poor judgement of the law enforcement officers here today.

The only reason they should ever engage in a high speed chase is 1) homicide/immediate danger to the public, and 2) kidnapping. Merry Christmas, two people are dead thanks to a bunch of over-zealous cops who used their accelerators rather than their brains.

Atleast they got the beer and cigarettes back. Sheesh!

passed a state police car tonite on my way back home from the family at a good clip, i'd say 115 or so, i drive an Audi A6. He didn't even bother to put it in drive to come after me. besides, there were drunk asswipes driving 55 in the high speed lane he should have worried about.

2001-12-26 5:05:16 AM

2001-12-26 5:17:25 AM
attempting to show my cousin how to use the skate ramp i got him for xmas...ended up showing him how not to use it

2001-12-26 5:21:17 AM
Unfarkinbelievable...All this for a farking pack of smokes? Locoz is right, If they'd killed someone it'd be one thing, but a high-speed chase for less than $5?!?!?!

Watch, they'll try to charge these people with vehicular homicide or something, the cops should be the ones up on charges now.

also broke my elbow too.. :-(

2001-12-26 5:24:09 AM
that suckz Dapharmer.

I have Percosets at my house (I have sports related back injury). I would give you some if you lived in North Toronto. Sorry.

I used to skateboard a lot. I still do every once in a while. When I was a kid I would fall and tear my butt open and be back out 10 minutes later. Now I fall on ice on the stairs outside my apartment and I'm in bed for two weeks. And I'm still in my farking 20s!

2001-12-26 5:26:21 AM

I'm a retired skater... (once you hit 20, sk8ings over)
If I had a quarter for everytimr i hurt myself / went to the hospital... i'd have like, all these quarters, or something....
I even had 5 hours of emergency dental surgery and an emergency surgical repair of my hand thanks to sk8ing.... Skateboarding kicks ass and builds pain tolerance.
PS: If i have even 1 more sip of beer, i think i'll die////

2001-12-26 5:37:34 AM
Dapharmer, get yourself a good doc, if you don't have one already. My guy, we have a deal, he and I. I do everything he says, and he perscribes anything I want, in whatever quantites I ask for (haven't really pushed the amounts yet though).

Threaten to change physicians if he seems reluctant - a doctor can usually be guilted into giving you extra/unnessesary meds, if it means making a patient feel better.

2001-12-26 5:42:25 AM
well i get a nice script for vicoden in about 4 hrs but it's waiting till then that sucks... the percosetts wore off i cant sleep cause of the pain.. but after i get the vic i'll be good for awhile

2001-12-26 5:47:25 AM
sucks to drive a nissan anyway

2001-12-26 5:52:17 AM
When I had a tib/fib break about a year and a half ago, I waited 6 hrs to go to the ER and have it looked at. By the time they were finished, it was about 8PM, and the law of the county there says that prescription drugs can't be sold after 6PM...

What'd I do? Had my friends take me to drink Guinness, it worked almost as well.....

The funniest part of the whole thing, was wearing a kilt and leather jacket to the ER.

im aboot ta hit tha vodka myself

2001-12-26 6:00:27 AM
when someone runs from the police, it's kind of a red flag that maybe they have done something bad enough that, when compared to possibly dying in a firey auto accident, the punishment if caught seems scary.
just a thought

2001-12-26 6:01:34 AM
christ... 2 f*in max strength percs.. 4 shots worth o alky.. 5 pills ibuprofen and 2 bowls.. u'd think i'd be even just a lil farked up and sedayed here

2001-12-26 6:04:55 AM
if they DON'T chase everyone, though, then doesn't that send a message?
Something like...

Hey, if the cops are behind you, just floor it! You'll get away *every time*!

Hopefully they can get their EMP carstopper technology working soon, so they don't have to really chase them, just pull up behind them for a second an then push a button that fries the electrical componants in the criminal's car. I saw this on the discovery channel. Science!

2001-12-26 6:28:44 AM
Also near the accident, Donnie Turner told what he heard, "We heard the breaks squealing and we heard a boom. Like something was hit, sounded like something blew up.

breaks
squealing? boom? somehthing was hit? something blew up?

breaks squealing? breaks?

like breakbeats or what?
ok, sorry to trivialize. when the innocent die over a $2 ($5 in california) pack of convenient something, then something is farking wrong.

2001-12-26 7:29:14 AM
Why doesn't a city that size have a chopper to chase them rather than ground vehicles!

3Horn: Guinness, a meal in a glass...ahhhhhhh

2001-12-26 7:36:08 AM
cause of death : passive smoking ?

2001-12-26 7:51:52 AM
I thought there was a law against high speed chases for stupid reasons. Maybe it's just in certain states...

2001-12-26 7:59:47 AM
Locos: I live near Tomball and work near the accident and I agree with you! I cannot belive how bad the police' judgement was!
Reposting your comments because they are so true:

Big Dave: the reason for the video is that KHOU TV in Houston is a smarmy station with nothing but lame-o hacks working there

2001-12-26 8:12:17 AM
See... see... I told you... smoking kills.

2001-12-26 8:26:14 AM
Why should anyone blame the cops. If my store was robbed I would want the cops to chase down the scum who did it.

Why is this story even posted?

2001-12-26 8:44:04 AM
the cops should be held accountable because legally... cops are not allowed to have high speed pursuits.. they aren't even supposed to break the speed limit, even when going to an emergency.. the only times they are supposed to be allowed is when they already had a warrant to go after the suspect...

for starters there should be no need for police chases when almost every area in the country has helicopterts accessible to the cops for the purpose of tracking down crminals.. and there have been studies that show that for the most part high speed chases that end in someone's death are from a cop getting gung ho and chasing down a petty criminal...

cops aren't above the law so yes.. in this case they should've used store cameras and helicopters and detective work to catch them.. instead now people are dead

I'd walk a mile to smoke a camel.

3Horn ....chase for less than $5?!?!?!

not to be picky but,I believe it was $150 in cigs.
I live in H-town too and agree with most of the posts here.

I say, yet another good reason to own a SUV!

If they would've been in an SUV they would've had a better chance of survival from idiot cigarette thives!

2001-12-26 9:18:25 AM
It blows my mind that people blame the police when morons like this kill people.

It can't possibly be the criminals fault, lets blame police, they should let anyone go if they run, that would stop people from running for sure...

2001-12-26 9:19:26 AM
The only reason they should ever engage in a high speed chase is 1) homicide/immediate danger to the public,...

Didn't the chase itself cause immediate danger to the public?

That will be the justification of the police for the chase.

2001-12-26 9:20:49 AM
the way police chases *SHOULD* be handled.

[image from screensavershot.com too old to be available]

blow em off the road before they injure innocent people.

2001-12-26 9:21:50 AM
Big Dave looking forward to EMP days too!

2001-12-26 9:22:54 AM
the chase was justification for the chase???

forget trying to stop em from running.. if a cop starts following someone and they take off going 100 mph.. while it may be the asshole drivers responsibility.. if a cop doesn't give chase then they are more likely to slow down somewhere and not cause an accident.. it's only a high speed chase when there is someone following someone else

2001-12-26 9:24:02 AM
Dza... skating is over at 20?

Gotta disagree... I'm 27 and still outskate the kids out here in the city. It takes longer to recoup from an injury, no doubt... but I'm skating better than ever.

Now, ponder Tony Hawk, Mark Gonzalez, Steve Caballero, Natas Kaupas, Jeff Grosso, John Lucero and Lance Mountain. They're still tearing it up.

Ok, now get back on your skate and quit being a girl.

A few things here

1. People died due to a stupid driver. Truely, I'm sorry. It sucks that that happened.

2. Most places can't afford to have copters in the air due to budgets. That also sucks.

3. There are some cops who hotdog and crash or make someone else crash. But people need to understand, if a cop tells you to stop, lay down, freeze, do it. Don't argue, run or fight. A cop puts his life on the line everyday for $60-70K a year. He shouldn't have to negotiate. That is not his job. If you do as your told, life is easy. Where there is smoke, there is fire. It is not the cops fault someone tried to run and crashed. The fault is with the person who ran.

Dapharmer from the article:

"The policy is you continue with the pursuit as long as you are not endangering others." he said. "It's a judgment call."

Before the acc. apparently not many traffic laws were being broken.

And, officers have to assume that these criminals had to be wanted for something other than cigarette theft, or they wouldn't have sped away like they did. Ever consider that?

BTW How's the pain?

2001-12-26 9:44:40 AM
I blame TV, noone ever died on The Dukes of Hazzard.

Peace to the families of the dead. Christmas will now be a sad time for the rest of their lives.

What a terribly depressing story.

But, news anchor "Lisa".... bobbies. Yes.

2001-12-26 11:10:15 AM

2001-12-26 11:19:19 AM
