The XFL is launched

Who was most responsible for this absurd miscalculation ... NBC or Vince McMahon? No matter. There's enough blame to go around.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I laughed my ass off at that when I saw it! XFL IS TEH GAY!

10. The Red Sox fire Jimy Williams
Maybe they're not cursed. Maybe they just don't know what they're doing. It wasn't bad enough tha bastards ruined my summer now I have to read about it all winter?

That's probably #1 in New England Baahston.
I hope Duquette gets a big cup of karma for New Years!

I don't get what you guys have against baseball contraction. It's one of the things that can actually solve one of the problems killing Major League Baseball.

There are far too many teams that can't support themselves. All they are doing is watering down the talent pool in baseball. They make the other teams less than what they could be.

That and free agency. That has wrecked the game.

The XFL could have been the best thing to happen to pro sports in a long time, with things like the pay scale. The week 2 Chicago/LA double OT game was better than most NFL games this year.

Right on, Fb-. Contraction is going to be one of the best things to happen to baseball in quite some time. I'm not all that wild about the Twins being one of the teams, but if they've gotta be a sacrificial lamb to make this happen, then so be it; just get rid of those damn Expos. Christ.
All those ESPN analysts have gotta wake up.

7. Hasim Rahman decides not to sign a multi-bout deal after lucking out against an out-of-conditon Lennox Lewis in their first bout
Instead, he let Don King talk him out of tens of millions of dollars. Guess he's not a student of boxing history.

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

Why does everybody feel like Vince McMahon invented the XFL just to personally piss them off? If you don't like it, don't frikkin watch it, don't worry about all the quality NBC programming you missed in it's stead. It's kind of like people who write on FARK's baseball threads about how boring the sport is and how much of their valuable time they have to waste biatching about it.
That said, I am against contraction because the interests of Temporary Fuehrer for Life Bud "Pee Leg" Selig seem to be the only ones that count, and to think of how much he hates the Reds, it's only a matter of time before he decides that the Reds don't make enough money for him and should be disbanded. I think Selig should be disbanded...by horses.

Fb-: Amen. Preach it, my brotha'.

Firing Jimy Williams during the season was incredibly stupid. But then again Dan Duquette and stupidity seem to go hand in hand.

I have nothing against contracting the Expos, but the Twins? They've been to the WS twice in the past 20 years! They're no Yanks, but folks do come out and see em.

Why not just axe the MLBs favorite whipping boys, the Devil Rays? No one cares for em, all they do is inflate the Yanks' and RedSoxs' records.

They should contract the entire league. I vote for a newer, faster paced sport. Perhaps one that mixes elements from the NFL and professional wrestling.

Help me, Bosox fans... I'm 3,000 miles from Boston so I may have my head up my ass on this, but the way I'd heard it with Jimy was he would not communicate with the team, players didn't know their roles or lineup spots day-to-day, and nobody in the clubhouse had respect for him. So regardless of however swell a guy he may have been or however many baseball smarts he could boast, what do you do when it's 24+ vs. 1? Seems the manager had to go. (Which is still a separate issue from Duquette having to go.) I'd replace #9 on the list with the Giambi thing.

Peaceboy I think that most of the reprted infighting was just media hype (now it's the "quarterback controversy"). Everett was a big problem, not just for Jimy, but the whole team. After awhile, the team had started to gel, and many team members accepted Jimy's way of coaching, and they did respect him. Duquette was wrong. His ego gets in the way. I hope he's shown the door soon.

Oh, and one more thing, in my opinion, you don't fire your manager half-way through the season when you're only a few games behind the first place Yankees!!!!

Squinth: Oh, and one more thing, in my opinion, you don't fire your manager half-way through the season when you're only a few games behind the first place Yankees!!!!

That's what was interesting to watch from afar, they wanted a reason to fire the dude all season long and yet they were in the race. The Kerrigan move turned out disastrous. Well, you're rid of Everett, that's a start. I don't know what promise there is with the potential new ownership, but unfortunately the Yankees aren't going to be any easier next year.

StickNinja,

I had 300 in 4 months. I don't see anybody ever toping that.

Fb-. Greatest headline writer ever.

I might just be a really big moron (and i wouldn't argue if that was propsosed), but I was entertained by the XFL.
Ah, Boston...I don't follow baseball like I do football (thought they are "my" team)...but the circus of it all is interesting to follow.

Fb-, this was my first in a month, I've got 299 to go and 90 days to do it
