the tours will last four or five days and cost about US$1,500 per person, including costs of airfare and hotel accommodations

Hell, that's more affordable than Disneyland! I think I just figured where I'm taking the family for vacation next year.

Yeah, a tour of a war zone where one of the combatants is known to take foreign civilians hostages and cut their heads off publicly. I think I'm going to skip this one.

Heck, your chances of coming back alive are about the same.

I think we should encourage this kind of tourism.

1) Thins the herd over here
2) Keeps ISIS guys busy in their own back yard
3) Improves the local economy in Syria, what with all the spending on food, gas, accommodations, translators, and tour guides

Life Imitates a Retief novel?  Russian government using a travel agency to ship troops to a foreign country under the guise of running holiday tours?

You know I am okay with this replacing African Safaris.  Go to Syria, shoot at a herd of ISIS.

Not even with a free AK-47 and some grenades thrown in for giggles.

"...many Syrians would be highly willing to host Russians to generate income."

In ways they haven't predicted, I expect.

Can we participate?  Because if Fallout 4 is anything to go by (and I think we all know it is), I've got mad sniper skillz!

Wasn't that a Science Fiction plot where tourists from the future traveled to great calamities to see horror and destruction?

It's even easier, since you fly in from Moscow, no worries comrade!

I seem to recall Syria was accepting non-Muslim foreigners in their military at one point.

I take it you have to sign a liability waiver for any likely injuries and/or death on the tour. Sounds fun! Do the hotels have a mini-bar?

Is this supposed to be a new thing?  They've been having "war tours" of Ukraine for quite some time...

Surprising just how many uniformed Russian soldiers spend their leave time in Ukraine.

Well, if you had unlimited use of Army vehicles for your vacation like they appear to, what would you do?

A cheap holiday in other people's misery...

Ask about the extended stays in the ISIS Inn. Now featuring Jihadi Paul, Jihadi John and Jihadi Pete Best.

The Most Dangerous Game, ISIS style. Bag one ISISISSY head, Russia covers your ticket home. Bag two, Israel covers accommodations + return ticket + $500 Bed, Bath and Beyond gift card.

There is a Frontline/PBS documentary on youtube that was filmed a few months ago that shows that Syria is trying to get tourists to come to the country.  They chatted with their tourism minister and there was even a tourism campaign this past summer for it (with TV commercials to boot).

The cherry on the cake was them visiting a brand new water park and condo complex just built literally 10 - 15 minutes from the fighting and the downtown near this park was in ruins.  Yet, there were kids swimming in the pools and people walking around like it's no big deal.

Very surreal stuff.

I saw one of those commercials and was sure I was dreaming.  Surreal indeed.  Maybe it's some kind of post modern performance art from Terry Gilliam.

RT reported this. RT makes the Daily Fail look like a peer-reviewed journal. Based on the source, you can't reasonably conclude that the tour company exists, that there is a war for them to tour, or that Syria exists.

There's an Alfred Bester short story I've been desperate to track down which could be this.
