I hate you all

This tag is perfect.

Heavy Metal records?

hehe. haha. hoho. farking A. Heavy Metal? Uhmmm... like Cinderella and Dokken? Maybe some Trickster or Firehouse? Top it off with Armored Saint and Saigon Kick?

2001-12-26 4:56:03 AM
Burning books heroic(sp?)? I'm not a fan of Harry Potter, but this is a stupid tag.

2001-12-26 5:08:10 AM
Which is the greater sin here, book burning/censorship or children's fiction?

2001-12-26 5:12:21 AM
Hero?

This is where I put forward the suggestion for the 'Moronic display of intolerence' tag again. It's usually meant for Jack Chick, but it would also do nicely here.

2001-12-26 5:29:45 AM
I just feel obliged to point out that he admits to having NOT read any of the books that he is burning. Right. And yes, that does seem to be a split infinitive.

2001-12-26 5:35:57 AM
Speaking of tags, I think we are long overdue for an 'asshole' or 'dumbass' tag. Come on Drew, whaddoya say?

2001-12-26 5:39:11 AM
I just gotta protest! [HERO]?! The man wants to burn *porn*, for Christ's sake!

Someone needs to pop a cap in his morally superior ass.

2001-12-26 5:40:43 AM
I'd love to take a trip to New Mexico to burn some books...

I'd start with "The Bible", because it may lead people to practice incest, rape, murder, fratricide, patricide, matricide, polyamoury, adultery, genocide and assorted other sins and crimes...

I almost added war to that, but people have read "The Bible" and started wars so may times that it's a forgone conclusion.

Sean Connery said it best in The last Crusade:

"Goose-stepping morons like yourself should try reading books instead of burning them."

10 bucks says this guy has never even read Harry Potter.
(I wouldn't expect this kind of thing in ALAMOGORDO. With the space center up there, you'd think there would be more educated folk up there that would know the value of books!)

2001-12-26 6:08:31 AM
gack
i was all set to "rant mode", corn-bread, when i realized you were talking about indiana jones and not "the last dragon/knight/whatever movie sean connery was in"

oh, and without ever having read one of the books, or seeing the movie, i have to say that harry potter is undeniably horrible and faye.
look at him...
makes me want to punch him

my desire to see harry potter punched stems not from religious intolerance, just intolerance for children's fads...

2001-12-26 6:15:26 AM
Corn-bread well, consider yourself 10 bucks richer. the story clearly says, "Brock says he hasn't read any of the books in the wildly popular children's series by British author J.K. Rowling."

2001-12-26 6:18:28 AM
Perhaps our friendly pastor would like a nice little square mustache, a starched uniform with bulging sides, some boots and, oh yes, one of those really creative Nazi symbols too?

2001-12-26 6:22:14 AM
I have no interest in harry potter at all. But I object to this. Lame.

By the way, did anyone notice the comment about burning "heavy metal" records? He said he'll do it, and I don't doubt him. By the way, I already commented about this. I believe it was post number 3, or so, in this string. But I don't care.

Why?

Because I'm drunk.

Paradive:

Uh, cool. Yea. I would have...uh...read the article myself and gleaned that from it but....uh...I'm like...uh...illiterate or something.

(tell ya what. I'm just going to grab my 10 bucks and eject from this flaming post now!)

2001-12-26 6:26:49 AM
Fb- could stir up a lot of shiat by saying this is an example of Christian persecution by the liberal media. They point out examples like this to paint a negative pictures of anyone who has faith in Jesus Christ. Same kind of thing the government encourages in media coverage of the Middle East.

2001-12-26 6:35:06 AM
It'd be great to toss the good pastor's ass into the fire while he's at it. Sick bastard.

2001-12-26 6:48:48 AM
So what do you think the odds are that I'd be shot if I organized a bible-burning event?

Especially if I threw in a few flags...

2001-12-26 6:51:44 AM
...and more importantly, would it earn me the img.fark.net tag?

2001-12-26 7:03:21 AM
Ok! I think most agree that the Stupid or Asinine tag would be more fitting. The fact that Mr. Brock hasn't actually read any of the books makes me want to vomit all over him. Though, I don't believe in persecuting the entire Christian religion over this, just Mr. Brock. Did the mistakes of the Nazis not teach Mr. Brock anything?

2001-12-26 7:07:42 AM
If I ran the seminaries, it would go like this....

"lesson 1: Jesus, your Lord, was the biggest rebel of his time and/or region. He chalanged the economic and political system. He claimed mom to be virgin. He said dad was the same God of Abraham, Issac, Jacob, and Joseph. And Adam. Noah. Cain. Abel. He said he was the guy the prophet Isaiah predicted some 700 (?) years prior. He pissed off the governor (Harod) so much that he (Harod) killed every toddler in Bethleham. He defied the established system to the point that he was executed. In the most horrific way."

When I see or hear of "Christians" condemning "rebelious" figures, I cry. Just kidding. Actually, I go to fark, look shiat up, drink whiskey, and get into spelling arguements.

Still feeling tipsy Dr. G???

2001-12-26 7:29:28 AM
watson

fark yeah. i'm trying to finish off this bottle of beam rye so i can make some crown royal mahattans.

2001-12-26 7:30:18 AM
manhattans.

*sigh* This may be the single most uninformed comment I've ever heard. If you read the Bible, you might see that these things are what the Bible teaches against. Just because they are mentioned doesn't mean they are encouraged. If I write a book against rape, I'd have to mention rape in that book, but I suppose you might think it would lead somebody to do it since it was mentioned. Try reading the Bible as a whole and you'll see these things are taught against, and that the point is to lead people not to do them.

2001-12-26 8:08:47 AM
I definately believe the "hero" tag was meant to be sarcastic. If not, then we need to define hero, and someone who burns books, no matter what the subject matter, is *not* a hero.

That's funny. Across the street I'm holding a bible burning. Anybody is welcome to come, just bring a bible or other silly christian knick nack for the fire!

2001-12-26 8:17:45 AM
So Harry Potter is bad because he uses magic. But Santa Claus is ok to teach kids because he uhh...uses magic.

ok.

2001-12-26 8:17:50 AM
Richard A: No, I think who ever submitted this just really dislikes Harry Potter.

2001-12-26 8:18:46 AM
Ugh. Thank me for stating the obvious.

Well, for genocide, how about Numbers 31:1-54?
For rape, how about Leviticus 19:20, which says that a servant woman who is raped will be scourged, but the man will be forgiven?
For incest, how about Genesis 19:30-38?

2001-12-26 8:38:00 AM
oh fark...there goes the neighborhood

*laughs with Someguy*

2001-12-26 8:39:39 AM
....and I'll get your little dog Toto too. Errr is Toto a heavy metal band?

2001-12-26 8:43:16 AM
You guys put waaay too much weight on the tags. So it says hero, who cares?

2001-12-26 8:44:35 AM
If I hold up a burning Bible can I get the Hero tag???

Ah I dont care bout the tag, Its the burning bible that counts.

2001-12-26 8:46:56 AM
And for the record, I submitted this, and yes I was being acerbic.

2001-12-26 8:58:11 AM

Like I said, read the Bible as a whole. Those things in the Old Testament were dealing with the state of man as they had become on their own. These were the first steps in leading mankind away from this type of behavior. The Bible continues to show the movement of manking towards the type of behavior in the 10 commandments, and eventually the Net Testament, which teaches very much against those very things you mentioned. In the Old Testament, mankind was doing horrible things, which God wanted to move them away from, and it took baby steps to get them to the point of the New Testament. Read it as a whole, don't pick parts out of the context of the whole.

Oh, and for the record, although I don't care for Harry Potter one way or the other, I think the guy that wants to burn the Harry Potter books is just plain wrong. I may not be a Harry Potter fan, but there's nothing evil about it.

2001-12-26 9:02:50 AM
Alfonso: Extremists are always looking for a new cause to biatch about. An extremist without a cause is like a fish without water.

2001-12-26 9:06:17 AM
Good moron pastor. Bright moron pastor. Teach kids that if you disapprove of something it's OK to destroy it.
The Nazis started with books too.

2001-12-26 9:07:37 AM
I wonder what comes next? Banding together to kill people of "wrong" religious beliefs?

2001-12-26 9:29:58 AM
So I wonder what would happen if someone were to organize a mass bible burning to protest the stupidity of religion?

Anyone ready to help out?

2001-12-26 9:40:56 AM
So, uhhhh, how are they going to get these Harry Potter books, porn, and heavy metal records? Certainly can't steal them...but if you go buy them to burn them, the people you want to stop putting this stuff out just make $$$ off you. Do you think they care what you do with it after you give them money?

2001-12-26 9:45:08 AM
I hate the sarcastic use of the 'Hero' tag. It smacks of 'trying to stir things up for fun' and that is boring.

This pastor is behind the times, burning Potter is SO 1999. Lord of the Rings is the in thing to burn in '01. And 'heavy metal albums'? Like Judas Priest or shreik DIO?!? Laughable, incompetent hard core Christianity.

2001-12-26 9:51:13 AM
What a knucklehead.

I don't think that Rowlings deserved a Hugo Award for the Harry Potter, but it is entertaining. The movie is okay, too.

Perhaps you could visit the website and let Pastor Jack know who stupid he is?
