Tourney3p0: Eat a habanero. Wait 60 seconds. Then drink water. Tell me which one is worse.

Sorry, but you're wrong. Water does not help. This is an easily provable fact. If you disagree, I'm sorry. Try eating a pepper. Try Googling it and tell me everyone else's experience. When both of these things contradict you, pretend only your experiences matter. Me, I believe in science and fact. Water isn't going to do shiat to your oil. It's going to spread that oil into every single pore in your mouth, and you're going to regret it. Had you ever tried it, you would know this.

Worldwalker:

The spicy pepper is a single point source of capsaicin. With a dinner of Indian food, your entire mouth is exposed to the capsaicin, and therefore water is not going to spread it around

Rice/meat/whatever has a much less finite surface area than water.

Actually.. jesus christ, never mind.  You guys are right.  Drink a great big glass of water after eating some spicy food.  It makes it great

Uhhh. What?

I'm fully willing to believe you, but can I get that story without the hyperbole?

He signed a bill requiring that this:
[rhrealitycheck.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com image 375x250]

To be inserted in a woman's vagina for no medical reason and against her will.

If I did that to a woman walking down the street, I'd be in jail.

Bobby jindal has a lot of things we can criticize him on but the uncanny resemblance a trans-vaginal ultrasound wand has to the A&E G-Gasm Delight G-Spot Vibe shouldn't be one of them.

We're talking about Kasich.   Who DID sign a law saying that should be shoved into a woman for no medical reason, against her will.

Yeah I was kind of trying to start a running joke dude. Do you see how it doesn't really work if I switch it to Kasich?

I've actually posted substantially less text than the two of you, but I've provided sources you can check to show that you're wrong.  Sure, it involves less text.  But it allows you to check for yourself.

Not sure what "loud" means in your world, but I suspect it means something different between the two of us.

He basically denies his background, so it is absolutely okay to make fun of that, and that is all we are doing.

I can't even with this shiat. Step back and think about what you're doing. You are not attacking a person. You are attacking an ethnicity and a skin color. The fact that you can justify it to yourself does not mean it is ok. The fact that Jindal is not Apu, and that makes it ok to attack him is ridiculous. This is like saying Obama is not enough like Uncle Remus, so all the racism against him is totally acceptable.

The double standard on racism against indian and asian americans is insane doublethink.

What does a discussion of the best way to counteract excessive capsaicin have to do with what anyone thinks is an acceptable job for Indians, whether they're politicians or otherwise?

Naan got mentioned. This resulted in several people (me included) craving it, which led to a mention of restaurants that serve it, and that segued into the whole rather strange capsaicin thing, none of which (except for the original pun about Mr. Jindal's campaign being a naan-starter) had anything to do with any person at all, of any ethnicity, just about bread.

With regard to Mr. Jindal: I haven't seen anyone in this thread arguing that he shouldn't be president because his parents are Indian. (if he was Indian, he couldn't be president, but he's American) Actually, aside from a couple of people who said he was a terrible governor, I think I'm the only one who's really said much of anything about him as a politician at all; scroll up and you can read the whole thing. The reason Mr. Jindal shouldn't be president is that he's pandering to who he thinks the voters are, which they aren't anyway (which has a lot to do with why his poll numbers are what they are). That's the kind of person who shouldn't be president, and he shouldn't be president if he was born 30 seconds after his parents arrived from another country or if his ancestors greeted the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock.

Chill out. Nobody's attacking him for his ethnicity. They're criticizing the people who hold double standards for "their" versus "our" candidates, and any criticism of Jindal is about him trying to cater to that group of people.

2015-11-18 2:14:30 AM
This was all part of the game plan, same with most of the other GOP candidates.
They have no interest in being president.
They want to be set for life with the FOX News appearances and book deals and "speaking fees", so they can spout the durp for the rest of their life for big $$$

2015-11-18 2:19:22 AM

trappedspirit: Worldwalker: I don't expect a candidate who doesn't want to be president, of course, but some of them at least make a show of reluctance.

Like when Hillary reluctantly established residence in New York?  Kicking and screaming all the way was what I heard about it.

Well, that was because she ... um ... had visited New York? Liked apples?

2015-11-18 2:23:43 AM

Worldwalker: That's what lost him my support: He isn't a moron. He got his bachelor's degree with a dual major (biology and public policy). He was accepted to both Harvard Medical School and Yale Law School, but he decided to go to Oxford instead. He was a Rhodes scholar, for the love of all that's holy. This is not a stupid man.

Rebuttal:

1. Being accepted to any university does not mean one is necessarily possessed of high intelligence, and in fact it usually just means that you're good at studying (which is entirely different from being naturally smart), have lots of money, and know the right people. I've met plenty of people who have advanced degrees and yet it's glaringly obvious that they're actually morons every time they are presented with a problem or even just open their mouth to speak.  I've known doctors, educators, and even scientists who couldn't think their way out of a tough spot or adapt to new information, and I've known high school drop-outs who could out-think these degree-holders time and time again. So spare me the whole "he holds degrees, he MUST be smart!" line, because it's absolute horseshiat.

2. Albert Einstein had no degree. He did get a teaching diploma from a 4-year career school.

3. Nicola Tesla dropped out of college and never got a degree.

4. John D. Rockefeller was a high school drop-out. No degree. No diploma, even.

5. Richard Branson never attended college and barely graduated high school.

6. Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard. He was by most accounts a lousy student.

7. Woody Allen was kicked out of NYU. (you may argue about his ethics, but his intelligence is not debatable by most accounts)

8. Meanwhile, George W. Bush has a Masters degree (from Harvard!)

9. ...And Sarah Palin has a Bachelors degree.

I rest my case.

So... I am not paying much attention to the whole Presidential election because, frankly, I think we're screwed either way and the whole thing is kind of a sham, anyway, but I have to ask:

Do the Republicans have anybody  running who isn't a complete and total joke?

Seriously, everyone I see on the lists of GOP candidates is, and I'm (not really) quoting here, "100% a dick".

I mean, Jindal is a joke in his own party. Cruz is a joke in both parties. Trump is joke without a punchline.

And... I'm sorry, but this just doesn't make sense to me: The guy from the crappy reality show is the frontrunner?!?!

Tell me these candidates are all just pre-show entertainment, and the GOP's real  candidate will come out after all the clowns are done performing. This can't be the best the Republicans can do.

I'm not saying one of them couldn't win the Presidency. I'm saying that if they do-- ANY of them-- It will be a massive cock-up. It will be a pathetic joke. None of them is worth a good goddamn as a politician, as a leader, or as a thinker. They're farking clown testicles, all sad and multi-colored, but too gross and tragic to be funny.

The Democrats aren't much better, but at least Hillary Clinton has some gravitas and a working brain. Oh, and BALLS. Hillary Clinton has bigger balls than any three of the GOP candidates combined.

I'll be watching the election from afar, wondering if I should consider a move to another nation should Trump become our joke-in-chief. I honestly can't believe people are seriously considering voting for that chuckledick. Come on, people!!! WHAT THE FARK ARE YOU THINKING?!

Worldwalker: Last time I went to an Indian restaurant I drank five glasses of water. Big ones.

[...]

I know what capsaicin is (and I can even spell it). No, adding water does not make food "more spicy" -- it's just that water is not all that useful for washing away the capsaicin because, being an oil and all, it's not soluble in water. So it's not all that good at making it less spicy. But if you apply enough water it will help. Hence the 5 glasses of water. I would have preferred something like iced tea (tannins ftw) but, again, this being the south, all they've got is sweet tea and that stuff is tea-flavored pancake syrup, not something you want to drink.

No lassi, raita or other yogurt-based stuff?

Or just milk. Capsaicin chemically attaches itself to your tastebuds and water does nothing to help that, but milk contains an enzyme that breaks the bond.

Really, from that list, everyone from Bush on down should quit.

And the two at the top really don't stand a chance of the GoP giving them the big chair, so really it comes down to Cruz and Rubio. I see Rubio getting the nom.

Rubio seems like the one to get it, but it's seems more like Trump Vs Rubio in the end, but lets see how the firs primaries turn out.  Cruz is too disliked by a lot of the mainstream Republicans, and I don't think ads like this help.

How does that work, was he just sitting there, in the governor's mansion, when the words "Bobby Brady Jindal. you must run for President" echoed throughout? Did he has* a conversation, maybe discussed strategy, salary, civil engineering, and the like; or was he left trying to comprehend what He has said?

While I'm asking questions, when an ethereal host is talking to you, how do you tell if it's God or Jesus. Do they introduce themselves? It is assumed that God has this deep booming voice, and Jesus has this mellow James Taylor voice. But what if that's all wrong? What if God's voice is high and squeaky like Mike Tyson, and Jesus has a deep voice like Barry White? What if Bobby got it wrong and condemned himself nation-wide humiliation.  I guess it's better then an old-timey smiting.

WilderKWight: Do the Republicans have anybody  running who isn't a complete and total joke?

By Fark standards, no.

By Republican standards...

* Carson (Yes, THAT Carson) might be batshiat, but he's also the last fundie standing.  Which says interesting things about fundies, but.

Remember that fundies are such a low-status group that they've been dying off at increased rates for the last few decades, and it took 15 years for anybody to notice.  So they're desperate and latching onto anybody.

* Rubio's running as a fairly functional corporatist.  Which is about as good as it gets for Republicans.  He also has a magic sword powered by the Anti-christ that was a Bush family heirloom.

* Bush III is also running as a fairly functional corporatist with a side dish of open borders, which the Fark hivemind likes.  So he probably shouldn't have given his magic sword to Rubio.

* Kasich is joining Huntsman in proving that sanity is overrated in Republican primaries.  But he's sane in that "Chamber of Commerce robot" type way.

* Cruz... look, I really don't want him as President, but he's been playing a genius strategy that if Trump/Carson go down (admittedly, something that no one's managed to do until now) sets him up for a Rubio/Cruz 2-way fight for the nomination.
