Of course it's ok, he's not black or hispanic! A derka der! Thank you come again! Do you filthy coonts even think before you post this backwards marginalizing bullshiat?

No almost about it. Literally.

Well it probably wasn't actual whitewash used in the paintings and even then there is some beige. Hence the almost. As close to literal as you can get, though.

Corvus: RI_Red: Worldwalker: shanrick: So we can say his campaign was a . . .

naan starter?

Dammit, y'all with the naan puns have given me a serious craving for the stuff, and the package I had in the kitchen grew fuzzy green spots a couple of days ago. Now I'm going to have to go buy some more, and it's all your fault!

Fusion naan: you smear it with hummus and a bit of salsa. This would undoubtedly scandalize cooks from three different cuisines, but it's so good....

We have this great Indian place that serves honey & ginger naan. Farking heavenly.

I am not into Indian food but I love naan.

I like Indian food but I don't like having my eyebrows catch on fire. This is the south, the land where "mild" chili will dissolve your spoon. Last time I went to an Indian restaurant I drank five glasses of water. Big ones. I've gotta go back there soon, they have eight different kinds of naan and I'm only halfway down the list.

Dinnertime. And I've got no naan. :-/

Chupacabra Sandwich: Bith Set Me Up: "Bobby" Jindal embodies the modern GOP's concept of "diversity": Non-WASPs are welcome as long as they don't talk about their non-WASP background, and even then, teabaggers won't give a shiat about them.

Democrats: Come as you are.
Republicans: Come as we are. Better yet, don't come at all.

When Democrats saw a man called Barack Hussein Obama and went "Okay, we'll give him a chance." When Republicans saw Obama, they went batshiat crazy.

I'm  beginning to think this account is a bot.

2015-11-17 7:52:05 PM

Zerochance: This always comes up in every Jindal thread.

I'm a naturalized immigrant, and like Jindal, I was raised in the deep South.  I anglicized my name because I thought it would make life a little easier for myself, which twenty years ago, was very much the case.  I am very proud of my heritage, but when you're a Latino kid in the deep south, you have to be pragmatic, and going by an American name (which is actually a direct English translation of my Spanish name) definitely helped me break down barriers.  I firmly believe that and I don't hold it against Jindal for doing the same.  My siblings all did it, as did many of my cousins and other Hispanic acquaintances.  It's very common within first and second-generation Hispanic immigrants, actually.

Even Obama went by "Barry" in his college years (which is widely mocked by Republicans), so even though he did end up using his birth name for his political life, he anglicized his name for many years, probably out of a similar need to fit in.  Nothing uncommon about that.

So, I'll give ole' Bobby a free pass for not going by his Indian name.

What I do find absolutely farking hilarious is that portrait of his where his skin is several shades lighter.  Motherfarker, we know what you look like, and that ain't it.  That's fair game.  Rip him for that.

the only reason I don't mind the Piyush comments is that I put them down as a reference to the "B Hussain Obama" people. Same as a the Cruz birthplace. Anyone I know who make comments about it are only doing it as a reference to Obama.

Worldwalker: I find it interesting that the Republicans made a big deal of referring to Barack Obama as "Hussein" and saying "well, that's his name, right?" yet they refer to Piyush Jindal as "Bobby" which is no part of his name.

So, is the name on his birth certificate the one you use even though it isn't the one he goes by? Or is the one he goes by the one you use even though it isn't the one on his birth certificate? Does it matter what party you are -- or what party he is?

You're supposed to use caps. Barack HUSSEIN Obama.

Exactly. It's not about Jindal himself, whether you call him Piyush or Bobby or Rumpelstiltskin. It's about the hypocrisy of the people who insist on referring to a politician of the opposing party by his middle name because it sounds "scary" but use an adopted name for a politician of their own party because it sounds "American." I've got a lot of things against Jindal, not least among them that he's a smart guy who's been pretending to be stupid to pander to who he thinks his supporters are, but when I talked about the name thing, it was the conservatives online, not Jindal, that I was criticizing.

And the food puns ... c'mon, this is Fark. We make puns. We talk about food. So of course there are food puns. I'm sure if Ted Cruz drops out, it's gonna be the taco the thread, too. Mr. Jindal is of an ethnicity which has a popular and widely-recognized cuisine and in which, because the phonemes of many of the Indian languages are similar to those of English, lends itself well to punnery.

Moothemagiccow, you're sounding like those college students who want "safe spaces" and rant about "micro-aggressions" and whatnot. I do not mean this in any possible positive way.

Kasich still has a path to the nomination- he's polling far ahead of his national numbers in New Hampshire. A decent showing there, and he picks up steam really fast in the establishment lane, especially if Jeb does poorly in Iowa and New Hampshire (which he likely will). That leaves Kasich, Rubio, and Christie as the only three plausible candidates in a general. Christie is banking on the same strategy, but Kasich is running better than he is in NH, last I saw.

It's also in Kasich's (and Christie's) best interest to stay in as long as he can in order to keep a reasonably high profile as a guy who's going to be on any VP shortlist just by virtue of his current job- a popular governor of Ohio is going to be really hard not to put on a ticket.

Graham doesn't have a path, but he's running a campaign on the platform of "I hate these isolationist nutjobs trying to take over my party and I'm going to use the platform of a Presidential race to try and rebut them as much as I can." He doesn't care about the path to the nomination, he knows he doesn't have one. He just wants to get his message out, so he'll run as long as he has enough money to keep going.
