New mobile game lets you explore Starship Enterprise

Cool, an open world game where you can roam around the Enterprise and...

"on a mission to protect baby Stewie Griffin, "

Oh Christ.

It's because Disney bought Star Wars, isn't it? Doomed us all.

"Hello, Captain Picard. I come bearing a gift. I'll give you a hint. It's in my diaper and it's not tea, Earl Grey, hot."

It's not a new game. It's a microtransaction-riddled timer fest. One of the many substandard excuses for games designed to hoover cash from addicted morons that plague mobile gaming. Skip this and find a proper game instead. There are plenty of honest titles on ios and android if you take the time to look.

"Don't bother calling your first officer, because this doesn't involve Number One."

The latest mobile game that I'm getting a kick out of: Sid Meier's Starships and no micro-transactions.

Am I missing something, isn't that a PC game?

It is both actually. I prefer it on mobile, because if I sit down to play a computer game, I will play a better game than that, but as a mobile game, it's perfect.

I came across a nice port of KoTOR last week for my phone and tablet (purchased the tablet version). I am enjoying it so far and if it plays at all like the original later on in game, I know I will be re-rolling classes, skills, light vs dark, ect many times over.

I've been playing it, and I'm not really that impressed with it. It's sort of addicting, but also frustrating at the same time. Granted I'm still trying to figure everything out. Like, why the other empires win a population victory when I set it to a different win condition. What's the point of choosing a win condition if you can still lose because the other guys win a different one?

think that when you specify a victory type, you are only restricting yourself and not the AI players. Because if you don't restrict victory types, it's pretty much impossible to win a Domination victory without winning a Population or Wonder victory first by default.

FWIW, Star Trek Online does give you the ability to walk around your own ship. Patrick Stewart hasn't had any involvement yet, but a lot of other cast have appeared in game. It has its flaws, but if that's what you're looking for, you can get it right now for free.

It gives you the ability, yes. The need or any good reason to? No.

I'm not sure how they would change it to have any real function, and someone would have to biatch they can't do something from the status screen. But I did always think it would be cool to go spelunking in the Jeffries tubes to install upgrades to improve stats on your ship. But you switch out ships so quickly these days.

The Foundry has some good uses for the interior maps. Open Investigate Officer Reports and you get a nice dilithium bonus for those.

I just got a fleet T5U Cruiser, my first non-freebie ship. I like it, & I hope that the t6 level lasts for a long time so I can get comfortable. That seems to be the intention of the developers With the ship traits unlocking.

I've been meaning to check out the foundry stuff. Never got around to it.

I just broke down and paid for a Guardian Cruiser, which I am loving. It's officer slots finally let me have a bridge officer configuration that I've been wanting forever. It's not as fast as the Odyssey in sector space, though, but my transwarp cools down super fast if I'm ever really in a hurry to go anywhere. Seems to turn better, too. I suck in escorts, and science vessels just don't do it for me.

Send me a friend request, same @ handle. Are you in a fully ewuipped fleet? That has been a huge help to me.

Sector space is getting reworked to get rid of the shoeboxes, so transwarp cooldowns will becomes very important.

My fleet is Tier IV. But they have all the gear that I want. They're pretty good at keeping things stocked. Working on max leveling so I can get the warp cores on the spire.

My handle is the same as my user name here. There should be a Fark fleet.

That might be interesting. It looks like my creaky old PC might be able to run it as well. Worth a try for free. I did look around the Star Trek museum in Second Life which has some nice bits including a ship that you can walk about in a bit but it's not quite as immersive as I'd hoped.

Stay out of Delta Quadrant and you'll be fine, PC wise.

Hand to God, I found out about Leonard Nemoy in zone chat. I was part of the instant migration to Vulcan and it was very touching. If that sounds poignant instead of nersd.jpg, you will like it.
