I call this "Lightning Strike Near Green River." It's currently on display at the Wyoming State Museum as part of the Governor's Capitol Art Exhibition.

Another 1971 picture of lightning from the top of Mt Scott. This was a different night and looking in a different direction at a pretty intense storm.

PS for those interested, the slides were digitized on a lightbox with a macro lens on a tripod-mounted DSLR. Also done a long time ago, could probably do a little better now.

This is a digitized slide I originally took in 1971 of a storm approaching Lawton, OK from the top of Mt Scott. The lights are Lawton and Fort Sill.

Storm's Up

A few days prior, a nasty storm battered the Bearing Sea between Kamchatka and the Aleutians. The morning before this shot, waves generated by that storm reached Kauai's North Shore. By this afternoon, they had reached full force. While nearly every beach facing the swell was closed due to dangerous shorebreak (10-15 foot waves smashing into the sand), a few folks braved the open ocean breaks where they were treated with 20-35 foot faces in a normally calm harbor.
