Nothing makes for a manly drink of whisky like taking a pull from a sissy-yellow bottle of whisky made from natural spring water.

It'd have to be a real BIG bottle.

(paraphrased from Arthur)

Susan: A real woman could stop you from drinking.
Arthur: It'd have to be a real BIG woman.

I've never been to Welsh, but I enjoy Tom Jones singing, so it must be a nice enough place.

Shoot, the last thing the world needs are a whole nation of Welsh going on about Alex Trebek's mother being a whore ...

Wales is beautiful, desperately poor, and full of slightly tired, run-down looking people who are so relentlessly polite, gracious, helpful, and kind that they make you feel like a filthy ogre just being in their company. One of the main foods is bread made from seaweed. Something alcoholic to wash it down with can only help. I'm sure the distillery will be put to good use.

"The drink is being marketed as "distinctively different" from scotch and is made from Welsh spring water, matured in bourbon casks and finished in Madeira barrels."

Does that spring water come from yellow snow?

"Have you ever been to Wales, Baldrick? Don't go. It's a miserably place, full of gangs of rough miners who terrorise old ladies with their close-harmony singing."

Wales once had a vibrant whisky industry which declined during the Welsh religious revival and temperance movement of the 19th Century.

The worst part of that is that they can't even blame the English for it. Their lack of whiskey is self-inflicted. silly Brythonics.

Grigor: "Dafydd, you've been a good friend all me life. I have a favour to ask of you."
Dafydd: "Aye?"
Grigor: "When I die, will you pour a bottle of me favourite whiskey over me grave?"
Dayydd: "Aye - as long as you don't mind it passing through me kidneys first."

I've been to Cardiff once - loved it. That's about as close as I've been to Wales.

However, I hope they name the booze something non-Welsh people can pronounce when drunk.

Uh, Cardiff is *in* Wales, being the capital city and all.

My aunt lives in a six-hundred year old manor in Wales. It's beautiful. And ya know, Tolkien considered Welsh one of the most beautiful languages.

/ha. I've invoked the god of the nerds, you can't mock them now.

The new Welsh Whisky (Penderyn, not too tough to pronounce) is made from underground spring water in a park. It sounds very nice. Unfortunately, the shipping charges make it a bit high for us in the States (approx $200US, mostly shipping)I almost ordered a couple of litres, but on checkout saw the shipping charges. They also make a Cream liquer called Merlyn.

Guess I'll have to wait until the importers do their thing.

A thread on Wales, and no one's taken the time to say "Happy St. David's Day" yet? Or, at least, make dumb jokes about wearing leeks?
