Involved, but Grant was the CO for the Vicksburg campaign, and Sherman really only got to where he was by the Georgia campaign by riding Grant's coattails.  I don't think we should give it to  subby; judges?

I'm going to have to argue this one.  According to this, a buck goes further in Mississippi than anywhere else in the country, so that part doesn't really matter in the end.

The paper had some stats from the tcu game. They pummeling they gave Ole miss defensively should probably get them some jail time.

Grant took Vicksburg more impressively than Sherman took anything, so I'd say no.

No because they never research any history at all, if they had they would realize the state has traditionally been bad and barely better than Vandy the past 25-35 years.

What a stat. GT passed for 125 yards, but rushed for 453 yards. I don't remember ever seeing a football stat where they rushed for almost three times the number of yards they passed for.

kevinatilusa: And after yesterday, Sagarin still has Georgia Tech ranked behind both Georgia and Mississippi State, as well as both Mississippi and 7-6 Arkansas.

That's most likely due to losing two games mid-season that they should have won.  People are saying "oh, what could have been" if Tech had won them, but the losses forced Tech to regroup and refocus, becoming the dangerous team that closed out the season.  Sagarin's algorithms can't compute stuff like that.  Tech will get more respect next season, but little of it will come at the expense of SEC teams.  The SEC mythology is still place, regardless of wins and losses.

If you want to generate instant irrationality, start talking about college football rankings.  See the 1990 season for a case study.  Georgia Tech shared a national title with Colorado.  Many argued that Colorado should have won the title outright because Tech tied lowly North Carolina, completely ignoring Colorado's tie with Tennessee, and LOSS to Illinois, AND a ref-botched fifth down game-winning play to beat Missouri.

The last time Mississippi lost this badly was when Trent Lott was hounded out of office by Teddy Kennedy for proposing to reinvestigate Chappaquiddick and he used the same lawfirm that represented Solyndra, which Obama was a partner at before meeting Sheik Ali Ali Ali Infree who told him to pretend to be a Black Supremacy Christian during the Iowa primaries where he moved more black folks from Chicago into Iowa to vote against Hillary than the US moved Japanese to keep them from suicide attacking in 1942.

The reality of it is that the top-ranked Miss/Ol Miss teams are historically door-mat level programs and were riding a high ranking because of the power SEC teams being down, not because they were good teams.

All of the midseason 3 SEC teams in the playoff was an embarrassment to the game.  But that's what you get when you've got ESPN owning both the playoff and the SEC.  Oh well, at least you get to play the games out on the field.

That's what most of us said, except ESPN bought into the hype those teams had suddenly gotten better, they were mid pack at best and would have been about the same in every major conference, think KSU, sometimes wins but usually sucks or let's fans down.

Heisman also got 25% of home game gate receipts.  To put that into perspective, if he coached at Ohio State today, he would make more than double what Urban Meyer makes, without paying Heisman a salary.

Yes, he was a douchebag. Even though he put decent teams on the field and won a lot he got shown the door because he was a known asshole.

Which is why I wouldn't brag about beating what amounts to cleaning staff and frat boys, it wasn't about revenge it was about him making money since he was going to sue them if they didn't play.

Sherman's XV Corps was responsible for burning most of Jackson, but McClerand's XIII Corps and McPherson's XVII Corps were responsible for most of the tactical victories en route to surrounding Vicksburg (Grand Gulf, Raymond, Champion's Hill, etc.)

FSU is in the Big 12?

I'm not a FSU fan, but I'm sorry, the only logical ranking I can follow is that the defending national champ, who is also on a 30 game win streak, should be #1 until they lose.

Dang, that's awesome. I've never seen a game where one team had a) 604 rushing yards; b) 12 different rushers with positive yards; or c) 6 different players with rushing TDs. They could have done better if Washington's QBR was higher than 66 though...

It was a garbage td at the end that made the score closer, so, yes, they lost badly.
Also, Uncle Billy didn't burn Atlanta. The Confederates did when they destroyed the ammo dumps. He just stood by and watched it burn.

The headline is idiotic because Ole Miss lost to a team from Georgia, the place that Sherman correctly boasted he would make "howl."  If you're going to invoke Sherman, do it for a game where Ole Miss loses to a school from a Northern state, preferably Ohio.

Comparing subby to Dennis Miller is giving him too much credit.

Also, in the Georgia Tech-Cumberland game, Georgia Tech didn't throw a single pass.

You could've gone with the "maybe the best team," but you had to push it with the ridiculous notion that they may be easily the best team.
