There's two girls who won't be having a Merry Christmas or Happy New Year.

Slenderman has the silliest superpower.

Except for teenaged girls who want to be slender, I guess.

Finding psychopaths competent?
I'm ok with this. If you can stab someone 16 times in an attempted murder you're having fun, and that's a special kind of broken. This sounds like depraved roleplay.

How does this work in a trial? They were found incompetent at one point. Could they plead an insanity defense now and present the fact that they were found incompetent before as evidence? I am curious how this process works.

Apparently, since they believe in superstitious nonsense, they'd fit right in.  For that matter, so do most of the religious types that populate our world.  Of course, if they actually had to live like they did back in the "Middle Ages", they'd probably quickly trade their religious/superstitious beliefs for heat, air conditioning, modern medicine, modern food, electricity, cell phones, running water, need I go on?

If crazy children cannot be fixed and returned to society than let's just kill them outright. It seems more humane.

Do we ever charge children as juveniles any more in high profile cases? I'm sure some kids go into juvenile court but it seems that if the case makes national news they are always charged as adults.

OK, I'll be that guy.

I have no problem with it. They tried to stab a girl to death, they didn't just steal a car for a joyride.

And Wisconsin has not had the death penalty since they became civilised in the mid-1800s.

Actually the real witch hunts didn't start until the Italian Renaissance. You were much more likely to be burned for believing in witches as the Catholic Church said they didn't exist so you're a heretic.

Charging 12 and 13 year olds as adults is farking barbaric. We're talking about kids who don't understand the consequences of their actions - we're going to give them life sentences?

If I were king, nobody under the age of majority would be legally chargeable in adult courts. Juvenile courts can hand out fitting punishments just fine.

Taking those out of order.  Yeah, the whole "adult crime, adult time" thing is complete BS for a whole host of reasons I won't go into, it COMPLETELY ignores everything that we know about neurological development, and it desperately needs to farking stop.  We've already banned the death penalty for minors, and federal courts can no longer sentence them to life in prison, but it's still totally unreasonable to try them as adults.

As to their competence, that's actually fair.  To be considered competent, they have to (depending on jurisdiction) either understand what it was they're accused of doing, or understand that society considers it wrong to do what they're accused of.  Most jurisdictions use the first one.  They knew they stabbed someone to death, so that first test is satisfied.  The second one's always trickier to prove, but can probably be demonstrated here.
