I saw them in Philly on their "Recycler" tour back in the early 1990s. They put on one hell of a show.

DAMNIT! Not a single date within 500 miles of me. FML I need to move to a state where we get shows. Not that I mind our usual tours from Heart cover bands and such. But dangit!

Wednesday in Red Bank. No can do. Maybe Saturday in Philly...

They put on a really great concert, unfortunately the time I saw them they were were touring with Lynyrd Skynyrd who opened the show.

/In the 90s I went to 3 Skynyrd shows because they were playing with three groups I wanted to see, Charlie Daniels, Ted Nugent, and ZZ Top.  Don't judge me Nugent had yet to out himself as a derptastic asshole and Charlie Daniels puts on one hell of a show.

2014-10-01 10:40:39 AM
I have to think they will not just do a tour from Jan to May.  There will be more dates added, I'd bet money on it.

I saw ZZ Top last May in Savannah. They put on a great show.

The Kingston gig isn't too far for me and Kingston is not too far from LaGrange. But a how, how, how to get there?

Rattlehead: I saw ZZ Top last May in Savannah. They put on a great show.

I'm very curious. I go to a lot of classic rock shows and like any live show, some are bad and it sucks to admit that. EVERYONE that mentions ZZ Top says how great a show it was. Why is that?

The reason I ask is I've watched a couple videos and Palladia clips and I just don't see it. Not bad, just 'meh'. They play very well for a 3 piece but nothing was super exciting about it, they barely move around the stage.

I have seen Skynyrd a few times myself.  And I will agree with you, Charlie Daniels does put on one hell of a show.
CSS Time:
I was in Denver on a business trip once a long time ago.  I went to the hotel bar and it was closed so I went back to the elevator to go up to my room and Charlie Daniels got on the elevator with me.  He was very friendly and said hello to me and asked where I was from.
That is the sum total of my interaction with him.

Ted Nugent had already adopted jailbait to bang it long before then.

Charlie Daniels puts on a hell of a show when he is not rambling on about politics, which he has been doing since the 80s.

Skynyrd died in a plane crash in 1977, you saw the cover band.

All rockers in the 70s banged jailbait and wrote songs about it, it was a requirement of being a 1970s rock and or roller. Even Jimmy Buffet.

Could be just me, but not everyone judges a live music show based on stage antics. Some people judge them based on their ability to play live and the quality of the music itself. Many modern bands sound good in their singles and studio work, but then sound like dogshiat live. Going by everything I've heard and seen ZZ Top is one of those bands that sounds great live and will sometimes improvise and goof around with their music, which can be fun as well.

/hmm, a show in Lacrosse in March? I may have to see if I can make it.

True, a really great test of musicianship is a 3 piece playing live

A true test of musicianship, pulling off a 3 piece live and getting a thick sound. Nowhere to hide in that mix and it seems they don't play the polished album versions of their songs. Thanks for the reply.

Saw that tour in Milwaukee on Halloween night in 1990. Even from the rafters of the Bradley Center it was an awesome show - big stage props, interesting and funny band antics, and of course the bevy of leggy ladies, to say nothing of the huge cadre of people dressed up for the holiday. One guy even had a full Billy Gibbons costume and had wrapped himself in white christmas lights.

It was the first *real* rock show I ever went to sans parents, and it kicked.

Ahhh (don't) take me with you Jesus!

Seriously, they'll add dates, as someone posted up-thread. Probably between the first texas shows and the east coast shows that start months later.

I'm not a huge fan of the MTV, drum machines and synth era ZZ Top, but when they released Gotsta Get Paid I started to look for their pre-MTV and even pre-beard music and found I really liked it.

Saw them last December at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. Great seats, great show. Smuggled the dslr in and got some good pics.

When I saw they were touring w/Jeff Beck this summer I grabbed seats to the Tampa show. Snagged orchestra seats so more good photo opportunities.  Bummed when Dusty took the spill, but I can wait 'till May. Seats are still good!

Billy's tone still slays.

I just saw ZZ Top on Paladia last night. They still sound like they did 30 years ago.

I was thinking how smart they were to start wearing sunglasses, hats, and beards early in their careers...now it's 2014 and not only do they sound the same, they look the same.
