News conference from the coroner with deets on his death to begin soon.  That should keep the choppers away for awhile.

Not to sound evil, but is there any possibility that Robin Williams went out......ahem.....David Carradine style?

The media, paparazzi, and anyone with a camera on a RC aerial device can take live footage of your home, and nobody stops them. Assume that if you can see the sky, you have no privacy.

How is this even news? (or "not news")
Requesting privacy is standard procedure for the grieving family, and ignoring the request is standard for the media.

So don't watch a boring live version of Google Earth.

Yeah, this has already been noted exhaustively in another thread.

TV's Vinnie: Not to sound evil, but is there any possibility that Robin Williams went out......ahem.....David Carradine style?

Not unless Carradine pulled his pud so hard it left hesitation wounds on the insides of his wrist and sprayed blood onto the blade of a closed folding knife, no.

2014-08-12 2:56:16 PM
But the audience is demanding to know what the top of his house looks like.

2014-08-12 2:57:07 PM
If only there was some way to epic-ally prank the media in such a way that would honor the sense of humor Robin had.

If only someone with connections could pull a fast one and get them all away for a while and focus on something else.

But whom?
How?

Carradine whacked it so farking hard the inside of the closet door had defensive wounds.

I was wondering the same thing when I first heard that the cause was "suicide by asphyxiation", but the news reports also said he had cut marks on his wrists.

browntimmy: But the audience is demanding to know what the top of his house looks like.

Yes.  Actually, it's in the way that the roofers laid out the roof tiles, long ago, that turns out to be very similar to the way that tarot cards are read, which adds meaning into the way that he died.

2014-08-12 3:02:59 PM
A friend of mine pointed that out on his live show last night.

I think "ghoulish bastards" was the nicest thing he said about them.

My real hero's got rocks in his head
He makes hot love but never in bed
He'll live forever but soon he'll be dead
Dead
That's what I said

Death
That's the choice of a fool
All right

ABC statement FTFA:

"When we realized there was no news value to the live stream, we took it down immediately."

Not out of respect for the family's wishes, just that there was no mourning visible from the chopper.

Cut marks, sitting in a chair, and suffering from severe depression.  Not the marks of death by AEA.

There are some of us who believe Andy Kaufman, Jim Morrison and Elvis Presley are still alive living in Africa as some sort of prank.  Some say Gene Rodenberry is with them too and still writing episodes for a new Star Trek series, but I think that's just crazy talk.

2014-08-12 3:29:47 PM
As a former journalist "Because we can" is not a good enough reason to do something like this. ABC said they took it down once they decided there was no news value. What did you think was going to happen? Why do it in the first place? We all know what a roof and police cars look like.

Part of the cost of being rich and famous is the loss of privacy, especially in times of tragedy.

Did that thread also cover what an incredible, thick-headed asshole Wolf Blitzer is?

It was the only coverage I could find at first when I heard the news. The reporter he was talking to gave a nice career-summary tribute, mentioning twice that the family requested a focus on his life and not his death, and all Wolf could do was ask her: "let me remind everybody again that he was in rehab, did that have anything to do with his death?"

F*cking. Asshole.

That's a "rule" established by society. A society that could and should have the decency to say "there are limits."

Not surprising.  As long as there is enough public interest (e.g. ratings potential) they're do what they want as long as it's legal (most times).

Hell, this is the, what, 4th or so green-lit thread on Robin Williams on Fark today.  Even the admins know what is going to generate clicks today.

Subby here. I submitted this last night about 11pm MT.

I suspect they had choppers to see if they could catch any friends or relatives arriving at the house. Sick, no matter how you slice it.

And there aren't reporters doing live post-mortem colonoscopies, so we apparently have said "there are limits". Those limits just don't include aerial shots of dead people's houses.

I'd go for a radio warning to pilots and the use of laser dazzlers as a defense. I wouldn't want to see a pilot blinded and perhaps cause a crash, but farking up the video, I'm definitely okay with that.

True, but the famous guy who chose to put himself into the public arena is dead and his family and friends didn't make the deal he did.

Any chance we could convince Wolf Blitzer and many other media vultures to commit suicide?

Or at least convince them to all board a rocketship to be fired into the sun, and tell them it will be a career making story.

This was from a while back, where the teenage son had painted a giant penis on the top of his parents' manor house, and it went undetected for a year.  (He was off traveling when they found it, and they said he was personally going to have to remove it when he returned.)   B^D
