Mt grandmother died last year, she had Alzheimer's. The sad part is that her memory lost was very uneven. She knew she had a great-granddaughter but did not know that brother had recently married and his wife was expecting. Also it is sad to say her PTSD never really did go away. But at least she thought her brothers and sisters, all long dead, came by to visit her at her home which was bittersweet.

I have to say that the facility that we moved her into was top notch. Before we moved her in the director spent over an hour with my mom discussing what my grandmother liked and didn't like. They rearranged her room because she liked having her bed with a view of the door (the PTSD). The staff was incredibly kind and caring. They tried to get her involved with all of the activities (Montessori-based) they had for the residents. Most importantly the staff also treated her with dignity as well. When we took her out to a diner for Mother's Day they made sure her hair was done and that she had makeup on and was as well dressed as she could be. And after she died some of the staff members came by while my mom was sitting shiva.
