First, it was not a pickup.

Second, they didn't just trash a truck, they trashed his business because he uses it as a mobile platform to demonstrate the variety of air horns he sells for a living, and they trashed his demos.

It does seem to be a pickup. Here's his website. It looks to be a Ford F-650 or F-750 medium duty truck with an aftermarket pickup conversion (they don't sell them that way from the factory).

Now, on one hand, this seems to be an example of abuse of police power.

On the other hand, his business is selling those infuriatingly obnoxious incredibly loud horns for trucks that make them sound like locomotives. Given that, I'm not exactly upset that the police trashed it.

I have no idea how this can possibly be legal. How can that PD possibly justify destroying personal property (as well as a man's business) without a warrant? I thought they had to get permission to enter a domicile, why not a vehicle? And what gave them the right to pull out wires and disable his equipment???

I get the slippery slop argument, but I really, truly, detest the product that this guy sells. It encourages and enables this kind of douchebaggery (based on the faceplate decal it actually appears these guys are using his company's product).

Many burglars are so nervous they almost shiat themselves as it is.
Not only would the horn punish them, they would probably run away before they had the chance to steal anything.

Yeah, the air horns are annoying as hell and possibly illegal, but that doesn't excuse this unnecessary and borderline legal search. I wish they'd legalize cannabis everywhere like they have in Colorado and put an end to this stuff.

Under any other circumstances this would be an example of blatant disregard for a citizens rights and the police overstepping their bounds but in this case, they were looking for drugs. We must protect our children and society. You can't make an omelet without cracking a few eggs.

I hate this LEO-hate that comes up on threads like this. I love our local LEOs. They're amazing men and women, and every single one of them works damned hard and is as honest as they come

Maybe my town is an oddity, but I just don't get the gangbanger attitude that seems to be rampant in some officers in some other cities.

And it's frightening to think that people like those responding here, average joes so to speak, are raising their children to fear and hate law enforcement. It's frightening that it even seems reasonable to fear law enforcement in any shape.

End the war on drugs and end 3/4 of the problems people are arrested for. Make prostitution safe and legal and end the other 1/4. The straggly idiots who stilll commit crimes after that are worth shooting, anyway.

This kind of thing not only infuriates me, it really stuns me. I don't have a reality setting where the police are the bad guys.

My husband, as a Chief in the FD, has stricter rules on his conduct than it seems many LEOs in other states do. It's just shocking. People should be able to trust, without question, those who commit to protect and serve. And this sort of theft should be not just actionable, but a demanded actionable offense. No way to get out of it, no excuses.

Most of us expect that when we call 911, the people who show up will be compassionate, competent, honest, sober, and hardworking. Any deviation from that is just ...appalling. Absolutely appalling.

The smell of marijuana is pretty farking worthless as evidence of any crime. Or maybe I've been in Hawaii too long. Seriously, I can walk down any street nearby and smell it somewhere. I smell it at the beach (often from quite far away, as the wind carries that smell for a long ways - I've smelled it from a boat offshore from people smoking onshore). I smell it everywhere.

How does anyone know that it didn't originate from some other source? How can he be SURE that it's marijuana?

The whole thing is BS. Everyone knows it's BS. Hell, ALL the damn drugs should be legal just because the BS around their illegality - sending people to jail, destroying property, outright theft, not to mention the goddamned cartels - is way worse than the consequences of drugs being legal and available.

As for this guy, I don't care how much of a douche he is, cause the cops sure topped him.

The cops probably didn't like the air horns as well. They want to be the biggest peckerheads on the road.

I've seen this happen twice at 2 different state parks. Coming back to the car, and seeing cops or park security looking in people's cars (even using a flashlight during the daytime). One time there was a little commotion, because what appeared to be seeds and stems on the dash. We didn't stick around, we assumed they were going to wait for his return.

1. Make the cop pay for all repairs. Take it out of his pay check. Pay him minimum wage until the total amount is paid off.

In light of recent Supreme Court decisions and the current makeup of the Supreme Court, I would argue that there is no such thing as abuse of police power. It simply does not exist in the US today. Anything the police do is OK, precisely because they are the police. The exception being, if the person who was abused has lots of money. Then, and only then, the court may consider the possibility that police powers were abused.
