"I've got a drawer full of things that we know would create jobs, help our middle class, boost incomes, make us more competitive," Obama told wealthy New York Democrats.

So he actually has everything we need in his drawers.

What is the point of power if you can't take away people's guns and round them up into FEMA reeducation camps?

His administration is now struggling to contain a scandal after 40 military veterans died while waiting for treatment at a Phoenix medical facility.

The president's gloom is partly self-inflicted.
Obama botched the rollout of his health care law and saw his approval ratings -- and consequent power to persuade in mid-term polls eroded.

Obama is a computer programmer?

As if the ongoing economic decline of the American public isn't bipartisan. What a load of bald-faced horseshiat.

The wife and I were discussing this when he was elected. Every president has big plans and aspirations.
They seek to effect change and base entire campaigns upon the promise of it.
Much like a 6 year old thinks his new sneakers will make him faster.

As Son of Thunder mentioned, we have these smart little checks and balances but even they have failed, to some extent. The truth is that citizen apathy, political dysfunction and a general lack of unilateral cooperation has turned our system into a laughingstock. We only have ourselves to blame.

Exactly. All he has to do is propose those bills to Congress and they'll get them passed lickety split. This Congress is all about gettin' shiat DONE.

He just has to concede some minor things like his entire Obamcare program and the EPA.  You know, small compromises like that.

In the aftermath of World War II, the United States was the only power in the world with nuclear weapons, a UNO card in its pocket, and the power of being rich and not in ruins. (Then again, Canada had the 4th largest navy in the world because all the other navies were sunk and well, dammit, we played a major role in keeping the North Atlantic shipping alive. I wonder what happened to that? Is it still in boxes somewhere in the attic, basement or garage? We could use one of those again some day, I bet. I hope we have the reciepts.)

Since then US power has slowly ebbed. This is to be expected. It is, in fact, a common set piece of history.

With China emerging as the global economic hegemon, the US remains the country with cheap oil thanks to the petro-dollar and also the country with the de facto world currency, and I don't think China has any immediate ambitions to replace the dollar. Whether they want military hegemony, which would mean control of the Pacific at least and possibly the Arctic and Indian Oceans, I do not know. They have been rattling some chains, if not scimitars.

But this trend began in the late 1940s and will continue as America ages and turns a little brown around the edges.

Unless you start treating non-whites with respect, you are liable to hamper your own economic, social, political and cultural potential. Free tacos for everybody with purchase! should be the rule of the day. Or maybe note. It's just an idea. I don't mean waxy fake WASP tacos. I mean the genuine article--spicy, fresh and tasty.

Whether you use genuine carne de burro is up to you. Personally I'd try to sell the Mexicans and others a lot of American beef. And let the wild horses roam free in  the large bits that probably won't have enough water for cattle.
Camels are also an option, as are alpaca. Have you ever have an alpaca wool coat? Lord I loved my Austrian alpaca wool coat. It made me feel like a fils à Papa, BCBG.

But I digress, as is my habit.

Far be it from me to tell you how to run your country. But this is how you should run your country ... embracing the future with generosity, optimism, hope and change, not into the ground.

Even Obama hasn't quite gotten it right but then he's had a pack of baboons pokiing iron poles into the spokes of his wheels from the get-go. Republicans are never going to win if they insist on taking office with their dogmas intact instead of doing what needs to be done.

Rising to power is easy. You just outspend the competition. It is decline which requires careful, wise, liberal and intelligent management and American Conservatives have a record of being totally clueless when it comes to those three desiderata. Four, four desiderata.

Shiat. It's the Spanish Inquisition at the door, isn't it? With stupid men in stupid white hoods.

Interesting.  It looks like there are two main points of change on that chart, where incomes had greater disparity.  One around 1980, another around 2001.  Whatever economic ideas took root at those times seemed to have caused major problems.  If there are any of those policies around, or their "spiritual successors", we should uproot them as bad for the middle class.

A good politician (not necessarily good in the sense of morality) is able to acquire political clout and then maximize the usage of that clout to get things on their agenda done. The entire history of the US is filled with rampant political opposition. Hell, they used to shoot one another back in the day. This whole whining about the opposition is just an excuse to try to cover up poor political execution.

Well, it must've been Congress, since we all know Reagan and GW Bush were the second and third comings, respectively, of Our Lord Jesus Christ...

So Obama says he has bills that could change a lot of economic things for the better and your response is, "Bullshiat. Our economy has been sucking for a long time and it's a bipartisan effort."

So yeah, I guess you're right. Obama doesn't actually have bills that could make things better. Because Congress has sucked balls for decades.

Is this how your brain works?

Oh there was some pretty bad malfeasance in the VA there.  However there's no logical way to blame the current occupant of the White House for them.  Unless you can reasonably link them directly to ObamaCare.  THAT might be valid.  But in the end it'll probably break down to a matter of bureaucratic idiocy in that facility.
