I worked for 7-11 for 6 months back in 1987. It was as big a nightmare as you think it would be. Drunks, criminals, and crazy people coming in. Luckily my daily shift was 3-11 or 4-Midnight, so I didn't have to do the even scarier overnight shift (alone). Criminals would come in, grab a case of beer and just walk out without paying. One of the assistant managers (little ex-south Vietnamese military guy with tattoos on his neck) would start shouting "HEY YOU STOP! I CALL POLICE!" but that did no good, because by the time the police showed up they were long gone. Teenagers would come in and purposely trash the store and shoplift. Once again they would get the "HEY YOU STOP! I CALL POLICE!" treatment. Once again, that did no good. Beer cabinets would be locked at midnight. Drunks would come in and be pissed that they couldn't get beer and threaten to kill us. Fun times, fun times.

7-11 was so desperate to retain workers they paid you a bonus if you survived 3 months there, and a bigger one if you survived 6 months. So I got both my bonuses and then got the Hell out of there after 6 months.

You know how a lot of people tend to overexaggerate their risk of death from crime? Yeah, convenience store clerks don't do that. That's a dangerous farkin' job. I used to cover crime for a newspaper, and pretty much the ONLY time a criminal ever gunned down a regular citizen was on the night shift at a convenience store. All the other murders were fights, gang/drug-dealer stuff or domestic violence.

Yeah choking is a black thing for some reason.  I used to work with a perpetually angry black dude (some sales vp's son)  who's favorite line was 'I'll choke you to death'.   I was always like 'what's up with you and the choking'?

A buddy of mine used to work overnights at 7 11 when we were in college. Many nights I would just hang out in the store, doing my homework and practically drowning in the rivers of comedy raging through that space.

Earlier this week, what appeared to be a different suspect, robbed clerks at gunpoint at a 7-Eleven along Conroy-Windermere Road.

It's a troubling trend that often leaves victim's unable to stay at their jobs.
