Well guess who's getting coal this year?
2001-12-10 09:35:19 AM
Reindeer should be outlawed.
2001-12-10 09:37:52 AM
A homeowner said he saw a reindeer matching Blitzen's description in his yard, about 3/4 of a mile from the center, but he had fled by the time employees arrived.

Like there are reindeer wandering all over the place....good grief.
2001-12-10 09:43:06 AM
The employees leave the gate open and the reindeer escape. They blame the hunter. Go figure.
2001-12-10 09:53:56 AM
The hunter "mistook him for a deer". He's a fricken Rein(deer). The hunter mistook nothing.

Mmmmmmmm. Rudolph the red nosed venison.

He was coming straight for us!

Damn you Solstice. Beat me to it.

Lets all pray together and hold a candlelight vigil..

(Ok,Ok, maybe not, but that story is sad...)

"We hope this will make people more cautious of what they're doing during hunting season. Don't get Buck Fever and shoot at anything that moves."

What an idiot that lady is. I'm not a big gun lover BUT shouldn't she be a little more careful about letting her prized pets loose before complaining about others' behaviour? Talk about a loss of accountability, these people got what they deserved. The animal was also probably put out of its petting zoo misery anyway. I'll bet it would rather have died after living free for a few days than spend the rest of its life in shopping malls.

Blackvampyr: Male Reindeer, Female deer. Male deer have racks as well and from a distance a reindeer could easily be mistaken for a deer.

Now if the guy shot a John Deer tractor.........
2001-12-10 10:43:20 AM
LordWatson: She's probably someone who thinks that deer are lovable, harmless, innocent, beautiful things that wouldn't hurt anything. She's probably never hit one with a car, either. One's attitude about deer changes dramatically when one hits a deer with a car, deer destroy your garden or flowers, etc.
2001-12-10 10:46:56 AM
Shouldn't shoot just anything that moves. Sheesh. It was probably just the biggest DEER he had ever seen. It's not like you can only kill deer when you go out hunting. That's why they call it a 'big game' license. If you go out hunting for deer and shoot a bear instead, well good for you. It's all big game.
2001-12-10 10:48:09 AM
(Local ordinances aside, of course. Which this article specifically stated did not cover reindeer.)
2001-12-10 10:52:48 AM
9/10: You're right about that. My old roommate once nicked a deer up north and totalled the front of his buddy's pickup. On the lighter side though he took it to a friend's house, skinned it and they ate like kings all winter.
2001-12-10 11:11:44 AM
I hit a baby one once. Caused $400 in damage to my car. My girlfreind was a little upset when I got out, looked at the damage, and yelled "you'd better be dead!" Hey, my hood was farked.
2001-12-10 11:18:57 AM
Hehehe.....finally news in my neck of the woods. This happened 40 miles from me.

Hey, it's deer season here. These people are nuts. They will shoot at anything that moves and ask questions later. I board up my windows and try to stay inside during deer season.

On the other hand, you can't blame this person. Think about having Blitzen's head hang above you fireplace. What a conversation piece.

No excuse for mistaking whitetail deer for reindeer. I go up North to hunt PA every year, and it is this type of individual that caused the family farm to be posted many years back. People would actually take pot shots at livestock in fenced fields, not to mention cutting fences and riding four wheelers.

PA deer season was changed this year, allowing both antlered and antlerless deer to be taken concurrently during the two week season. Prior years there was a separate season for antlerless. Many were concerned that this would be a safety issue, with less reason to identify target, leading to some morons shooting at anything that moves.

Adm_crunch: During Pennsylvania deer season, there are no other big game animals in season.

9/10 Eating yer Flowers? Try watching a deer hoof your dog in the ribs and launch it across a feild. I'm not talking a toy poodle either.

People seem to forget that wild animals are dangerous.

I blame Walt Disney.
2001-12-10 11:25:19 AM
CanuckGuy: "Wild" is the key here. That's why it's called "hunting" - if it were easy it would simply be called "killing". The reindeer were porbably about as domesticated as my retriever. This guy was no "hunter."
2001-12-10 11:37:49 AM
Don't blame the "hunter", blame the 24 cool refreshing cans of Budweiser that he and his "hunting buddies" drank before heading out. Those idiots probably would have shot a game warden, dressed in blaze orange, because he had a twig stuck to his hat that resembled an antler.
2001-12-10 11:47:02 AM
BigHornBall: More likely Old Milwaukee, empty cans all over the woods and roadsides. I used to get a big kick out of their woodsy commercials, guys laughing and drinking, never showed them tossing the cans.
2001-12-10 11:56:20 AM
Good point, Budweiser is probably out of their price range. Old Milwaukee, Milwaukee's Best, or Schaffer's. I think that maybe one out of every 10 hunters is a compitent human being.
2001-12-10 11:57:03 AM
I'm guessing none of you read the article since no one has mentioned the transexual that castarated her husband....

article on the top left link on the page of the blitzen story.

castrated him, he gagged on his own vomit.
2001-12-10 12:04:24 PM
I saw it, just didn't want to talk about it.

2001-12-10 01:14:17 PM
Well at least Grandma won't get run over this year!
2001-12-10 02:17:31 PM
Jodibug0975: I read it. Egad. That's disgusting any way around it.
2001-12-10 06:59:58 PM
Dammit, I thought they meant Wolf Blitzen.
