Well, that got really racist. You should look into Western beauty standards and why they privilege white bodies. Or continue being an idiot and an asshole, I guess.

If that video is any indication, Tokyo's pride parades are WAY tamer than in the US.

Why would Michelle want to march in Tokyo?  And can you imagine how much that would cost the US taxpayers?

Brick-House: Un Photo Shopped Version

Nope. Still shopped. She was added to that image. She was never there.

Oh, dear god, her staff didn't consider the potential for the abuse of this image, did they? This should be fun.

dfenstrate: ExperianScaresCthulhu: It appears, once again, that no matter what Michelle and Barack does, it's never enough.

Obama's expertise is in campaigning and the related skill of turning the government bureaucracies against opponents. Beyond that, he is incompetent.

Past that, what he does will never be enough for any leftist or right-winger, in any area. This is because he holds an office so far above his experience that he can only mentally check out, if he's not acting ham-fistedly. Note the endless reports about Obama being disengaged and bored. It's not because he's too smart for it all, it's because he's not up to the task, and engagement would make it plain to others, and even worse, to himself.

Michelle? She's living high on the hog because she can. Taxpayers fund her jaunts, with the girls and Michelle's friends in tow as 'staff.'

I think the FLOTUS of the free world has already found a slightly more pressing issue to stomp for.  But that's just me.

Even we assume Boko Haram is hitting up twitter every day to see what the world is saying about them, I am quietly confident that listening to the opinions of educated uncovered women is not something that they do.

Y'know based on their previous stated intentions and considerations with the kidnapping and selling 200 school girls into slavery.

So whilst I am certainly not saying it is an unimportant issue, the Japanese PM's wife showing up to a pride parade actually is more likely to have some effect on the opinions and behaviour of others than Michelle hashtagging.

That photo is not directed towards Boko Haram.  It's directed towards the Nigerian government, it's directed towards the worried parents (the First Lady is standing with the women who were arrested for complaining to the Nigerian First Lady for not enough being done), it's directed towards the world court and the media, and it's directed towards those poor young ladies themselves to show that someone is thinking about them.

It's even directed towards us, the United States, and towards her very husband.

She's making a statement.  Is that not what you ask of the First Lady?

It appears, once again, that no matter what Michelle and Barack do, it's never enough.  At least, it's never enough for a certain class of liberals.  You remind me of the woman who interrupted Michelle while she was making a speech about the needs of our children, and our girls being educated.  Michelle was the invited guest of an affluent pair of lesbians.  The heckler paid her way in, making her also a guest but not an invited speaker.  The heckler didn't care about what Barack and Michelle had already done and said in support of LGBT rights, she just cared that her pet issue wasn't immediately being addressed now this moment in the way she wanted it.

So that headline reminded me of that, and offended me in the same way.  It's never enough, for those who want Michelle and Barack to dance to their tune, and only their tune, in the steps they demand.

But whatever.

Is it true that the when the US originally offere support, the Nigerian government rebuffed us in the same way Bush originally rebuffed world help during Katrina?  Are there any Nigerians who post here at Fark, or did everyone run away to Reddit?

Are the people and fathers of Nigeria organizing to rescue the girls themselves, since the military isn't?  Or are there not enough guns?

Wow, walking in a parade. You know what else Japanese LBGTs might like? The right to marriage and equal protection under the law in their own country. But, you know, a parade is good too.

If they don't you just gave someone an idea.

I'm genuinely surprised  Ghastly isn't here to comment.

/I'd ask if we have a Ghast-signal, but I don't want to know what sort of silhouette it would show.

DarkVader: Anybody else notice how many of the signs in that parade were in English?

Just seems kind of weird to me.

There are always some words or phrases that don't translate very well from one language to another. By using English, the LGBTQ,etc. message is one that espouses Western values of diversity and tolerance. Translating some words on those signs into Japanese, 'Gay men's alliance' might turn into something that means 'association of men flirting in hot springs but live normal hetero lives once outside the curtains' or such. Which is definitely not the original message. And, if you're just going to translate English into katakana loan words, that won't mean anything to locals that aren't familiar with the English words to begin with. And, the rest of the world gets to see the parade and understand what it's for.

Japanese women LOVE gay men.

Most of the gay manga or yaoi is drawn by Japanese women artists.

Jesus. Do people really think that politicians "care" about them, or their petty squabbles? It was a good public relations move; nothing more.

I'm puzzled...

Just how gay could a Japaneese pride parade get...as opposed to normal Japaneese things?
