(Tag is for the donors, link goes to donation page. Keep reading, dammit! )

After many years as a member of the New Orleans news media, I now work for Second Harvest Food Bank, which serves 300 local food banks & soup kitchens across south Louisiana.  (23 parishes (counties) total.)

We're one of 200+ local charities participating in GiveNOLA, a one-day giving frenzy/promotion, encouraging locals (and others) to donate to New Orleans-based nonprofits.

Here's the kicker:  The top $ raiser overall gets an extra $10K...as does the nonprofit that has the most individual donations.  I could really, really use some help on the latter.  A bunch of $10 donations would go a long way toward helping us get the big extra prize.

Those of you who know me on Fark (since 2001) know me as an often cynical poster.  But, I can honestly and proudly say that this is one fantastic organization that is doing incredible work day after day.

PS - donors get a drink on me at the next New Orleans World Fark Party
