ontariolightning: Birmingham is about to be relocated.

The mountain protects us.

Seriously, they always go around downtown B'ham, but last big set of tornadoes to hit Tuscaloosa we had insulation raining down, but the tornadoes missed Birmingham propper

Two people killed by a twister at Billy Bob's Trailer Park near here.

I suspect they were struck by flying clichés.

I once acquired the phone code from the meteorology department at my school. Anyone that called the weather line that day was assured there was a "100% chance of tornados... tomorrow."

Goddammit, went from Omaha to Peachtree for ATM training, and ended up diving headfirst into Tornadofest 2: Cyclone Boogaloo here. A Dolce in the middle of a forest is not where you want to be during this shiat.

My daughter, who is in grad school at Univ. of MS in Oxford, is extremely worried about her sweetie.  Her sweetie had to a go to Rome, Ga for a family emergency and had left there earlier today to come back home to Oxford (she's a professor at Ole Miss). When I spoke to my daughter earlier she told me that a tornado had hit Tupelo and that she was so worried about her sweetie being on the road. I spoke with her sweetie when I got off of the phone with my daughter and she said the sky didn't look right and that she was going to pulll into the next gas station and wait out the storms.

My daughter just texted me, said her sweetie and several other people are hunkered down at a gas station in Hamilton al. 2 miles from them a tornado touched down.

Even when her sweetie can leave there she'll have a hard time getting home: my daughter has heard that trees are blocking both directions of Hwy 78 in Tupelo, and that's way she has to drive to get home ........

What is it?

The aftermath of a tornado that hit downtown Atlanta a few years back, I believe.

Destroyed the corner of the lofts one of my friends used to live in.

I lived in those lofts in 2003 in that building.  I was in a bar in Kirkwood when the tornado went down and drove at 10pm to Midtown to see my girlfriend.  I took DeKalb Ave and was shocked when I got down to Boulevard and I could see the silouhette of that collapsed part of the building.

Pokey.Clyde: dittybopper: Even something as simple as having a couple of FRS handheld radios you can pass out to family members or neighbors can make a big difference in the aftermath.

Spot on there. Plus, most have access to weather radio and many can be recharged either by built-in hand crank, or the cigarette lighter in your car. Personally, one of mine has AM/FM/weather/FRS/GMRS along with a built in flashlight and a hand crank to recharge it if no other power source is available.

I_Am_Weasel: Additionally.  Be safe.  No need to be farking during a tornado.

Wait.  I meant Farking.  Capitalized.

Real men simultaneously do both during a tornado.
