whither_apophis: Things are going to get leathery...
MrHappyRotter: I'm leaving this thread TERRIBLY disappointed. I was hoping this story was about a different kind of bear, if you know what I mean.
parkthebus: Hunt them. Let the biologists set a safe harvest quota and manage them with licenses.

pumpkineater: Can't they hunt stupid instead?
smd31: Bears beat Battlestar Galactica.
HawgWild: smd31: Bears beat Battlestar Galactica.Beets. Not "beat."
santadog: parkthebus: Hunt them. Let the biologists set a safe harvest quota and manage them with licenses. How about trying to secure your garbage and not leave shiat out that attracts bears before you go directly to killing them?Or is it too much to ask to take care of your garbage?/lived in the mountains around plenty of bears//seriously, just don't leave your shiat out.
Dinobot: shiat, I initially read that as Beast Wars...

Great Porn Dragon: This is not so weird to me, considering the whole reason KY has a bear season is that the state Department of Wildlife kind of had to formally admit bears were in the state (after about twenty years of vehement denials despite multiple reports of bear sightings, pictures, etc.)...when a big ol' black bear and her cubs sauntered into the Kentucky Welcome Center on I-75.Fortunately we've not had bear maulings of people, partly because (amazingly) people have known there were bears for twenty years or more and tended to take bear precautions...Florida...probably not so much and they've gone habituated to man as a result./there have been reliable reports of cougars in KY for about as long but these keep getting denied, even though there are Illinois DFW-confirmed breeding cougar populations just to the west of us//expect it will be admitted there are cougars in the state when a great big kitty shows up at a rest area :D///still hopes neither bears nor cougars get shot due to humans being dumb
miniflea: I don't remember which Narnia book it was where they killed and ate a bear, but since reading that as a kid I've wanted to try bear meat but have never had the chance.
drumhellar: FTFA: "What I'm concerned about mainly is that this continues to happen without intervention and the bears walk up on children who are playing and drag them off into the woods," State Representative Jason Brodeur (R-Sanford) told The Orlando Sentinel.Because, when you kill one bear, all his bear friends will gather with each other at bear tea time and speculate about the reasons for the bear war, and they will print it in their bear newspapers* that they have nothing to fear if they don't drag children into the woods, because of course, humans will wage a bear propaganda campaign, and that's how we'll win.*Bear internet hasn't been invented yet, so the bear print industry is still strong.

You know, where New Yorkers buy homes in the swamp and then complain about the gators?
