AverageAmericanGuy: FTFA: The same problem caused a recall of nearly 386,000 older Ford Escapes earlier this month. The Escape and Tribute are nearly identical vehicles.American manufacturing rears its ugly head again.
Bathia_Mapes: [www.yelof.com image 274x210]Yah, but I'm sayin that TruCoat, you don't get it, you get oxidation problems. It'll cost ya a heck of a lot more than $500
StopLurkListen: I thought it was the financing guy that pushed the rustproofing / lojack / etc, not the sales guy...@Bathia_Mapes[i1.ytimg.com image 480x360]

lack of warmth: Oh gosh darn it, we had a deal. We had a gosh darn deal you piece of mumble mumble. I can't believe this, we had a deal. Give me my checkbook

The Escape and Tribute are nearly identical vehicles.American manufacturing rears its ugly head again. Not sure what you're smoking, but I want some.Ford makes some damn good vehicles and has cleaned up a lot of issues from a decade ago. I'm a Chrysler guy and I can respect the effort they've put in.
WhoopAssWayne: Salt and slag will do that, regardless of rust-proofing snake-oil. ProTip: wash after every snow and go to an automatic with underbody wash. Or you can be a cheap like my Dad who has a truck with no resale value because he didn't want to pay the $8 after each storm. (Had a car for 10 years with no rust - full resale value on trade.)
lennavan: AverageAmericanGuy: American manufacturing rears its ugly head again. My 1996 GM manufactured car with 170,000 miles runs great. The only rust issues are with the exhaust system (straight pipe just got a small hole for the first time, makes it a teenie louder, i'll replace it soon), which of course after 18 winters with salted roads is expected.Basically what I'm saying is American made is always crap.

DBrandisNC: Also, if you bought a Ford escape, you are also screwed.
AverageAmericanGuy: This particular vehicle is from a decade ago, so what's improved in the meantime is not very important to owners of the Tribute/Escape.
WhoopAssWayne: DBrandisNC: Also, if you bought a Ford escape, you are also screwed.AverageAmericanGuy: This particular vehicle is from a decade ago, so what's improved in the meantime is not very important to owners of the Tribute/Escape.I had a '92 Ranger that lasted forever (though it had a huge manufacturing defect - the engine blew at 20K - improperly cut gasket got pulled into the oil pump - they fixed it at no cost to me.)What is up with the Escape?//Bought an Xterra in December. I've had the best success and value with Japanese vehicles: Honda, Subaru, and now trying NIssan.

Eps05: I don't know where you live but in Quebec once we start salting the roads, it remains there until spring. Roads are white with calcium long after the Sun dried and sublimated all the sub-zero water and ice on the roads. Rustproofing is a must. You need to get an appointment for the November/December period. 100$ a year, mineral oil. They even make little holes in the sides of the doors so they can spray inside (they put plastic plugs afterwards).
lack of warmth: I poked it and my finger went right through.
AverageAmericanGuy: The Escape and the Tribute came off the same assembly lines. The Tribute is just a rebadged Escape (like the Honda Passport is just a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo).
Sharksfan: The best part of that whole thing was the caption under the pic in TFA:The logo glimmers off the grille of a Mazda vehicle on the lot of a Mazda dealership.What. The. Fark. It's either total fail trolling or epic "how the hell do I caption a boring photo" win.
hardinparamedic: I bet Submitter also bought the Headlight Fluid replacement plan, too.
meow said the dog: No I do not have the memory of this perhaps it was because this did not do the happening and maybe if you would wish for not treating me with such the disrespect of the suggestions of this then we would not exist with the problem of the suspicion. OM MAGOODNESS who are you the DMV of Vehicle Registration? If you do not wish for the vanity plate of me which says MSTD because you believe this is the endorsement of the venereal disease then perhaps you should have the learning that the surname of me is SãÏdthě'døg.
knbwhite: When I bought my jeep the finance guy was working the Lojack hard.
Johnny Texas: Since this has turned into a Fargo thread, I'm going to take a moment to say that if you're not watching the series on FX, you're missing something great.
SpdrJay: Humans weren't meant to live in places where it snows.
