The only reason I can realistically imagine someone's panties in a wad over this article is if that person has a persecution complex.

Well, I guess where the columnist ponders whether the right wing would support Mr. Bundy if he were black. Mr. Bundy is not black and since there is no chance that his skin color will change any time soon. it's kind of pointless. The main issue is that Mr. Bundy illegally refuses to pay his fees and frankly, I don't give a fig whether Sean Hannity supports the squatter or not.

I disagree. The right wing noise machine's behavior and spin has been loathsome. There's no need to introduce hypothetical racism to prove anything here. It distracts from the more important story about what they've actually been doing (encouraging and cheerleading acts of terrorism).

If the rancher were an old black dude pulling this, I'd have to imagine that he'd have had many fewer people responding to his call for help from the militias. I could be wrong, but I don't think Eric Parker from Idaho would have been pointing his rifle through the gap in the bridge barriers on behalf of some black dude. But maybe I've got Idaho militia members all wrong.

They dressed up and rolled out that morning after a briefing that should have gone like this.

"This man hasn't paid his pasture fees in twenty years, so we're going to go out and raid his property"
"Seriously, pasture fees? You want us to dress up like we're taking out a drug cartel for a rancher?"
"We believe him to be armed and an expert shot."
"You'd have to be to remain a rancher in the desert. Otherwise you wouldn't have any live stock left."

Besides, if you really wanted his attention turn over collection of the fees to the IRS. Shut down all his accounts and utilities until he makes a payment plan. Make it so he can't even renew whatever licenses and permits he operates under as is until such a time. But the SWAT types only know a hammer.
