So much ignorance and stupid in that article it burns.

The GMO thing is getting stupid.  We need to treat them like anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers and young earth creationists.

There are far better reasons not to drink most of those beers.  Newcastle Brown and Guinness are decent though.

Freaking out over GMO foods is a bit tinfoil-hatty.  However, taking issue with the business policies of companies like Monsanto that specialize in GMO crops is an entirely different matter.

I don't often buy food based on ethics, but I know that people more principled than I do make such decisions.  I expect there are people voting with their dollar on such matters.  I frequently find myself laughing at groups like that and their hyperbolic blogs and publications, but I do believe there is basis for what they do.

This right here. The rest of those beers should be avoided simply because they're shiat.

If there are over 15 beer drinkers at my party, I'll buy cheap shiat. I even poured Svedka in a Grey Goose bottles and no one noticed at all.

Try the buycott app. You can trace the company ownership of any item with a barcode, and either give them your money or not.

PBR is rancid piss water. I don't really care what it's made of. But the douchbag who wrote this article should be biatchslapped into the next century for badmouthing Corona, Newcastle and Guinness. What a load of hipster twaddle.

2014-04-08 12:57:11 AM
So, don't drink the yeast piss in this beer because the yeast ate some GMO stuff before it pissed out the alcohol? Corn syrup is a simple sugar and has very close to if not 100% attenuation rate.

It's one thing not to eat GMO's, it's another not to drink the waste products of another organism that has consumed them.

You're supposed to run svedka through an activated charcoal filter pitcher a couple times, then steep a sweaty jockstrap in it.

Some days, the scientifically illiterate, anti-GMO, dipshiat hippie paranoiacs almost make me feel sorry for Monsanto. For that, I cannot forgive them. I don't want to feel sorry for Monsanto. I want the company to go bankrupt and die.

I bought a bottle of Svedka once.  It gave me a terrible hangover.   Sure, I didn't notice much difference while drinking it.

Maybe all your guests got terrible hangovers the next day.  Maybe they noticed but were too polite to say anything.

Provided the rats and bugs are raised and slaughtered under sanitary, humane conditions, and that their derived products are known to be non-toxic, I'm OK with that.

I think it's cute when non-science types pretend they understand what they're typing.

Just like when non-science types think Dr. Who is science related in any way, or feel apart of my world because they watched Firefly.

Equally cute, but growing very boring: the American tendency to believe that any good beer is "ale", and the typical beer asses ability to qualify that ale is beer (or even good) with a random smattering of bs factoids that they do not understand.

//longs for lagers
///crap lagers made in the U.S. by "craft" brewers are crap

Dried and ground fish bladder, also called "isinglass" is used as a fining agent in some beers. It spreads out across the surface of the beer, re hydrates and sinks to the bottom of the vessel, taking all the yeast and cloudy bits with it.

Look up 'isinglass'. It's used as a fining agent to clarify the beer.

First they came for the Corona Extra drinkers, but I did not speak, for I did not drink Corona Extra.

Then they came for the Michelob Ultra drinkers, and I remained silent, as I did not drink Michelob Ultra.

Then they came for my Guinness, and I smashed the pint glass over their heads, then slowly poured another.

I knew I'd heard about that before. Doesn't Budweiser use beechwood chips for the same purpose? They seem to think it's so significant it's mentioned in their advertising.

Excuse me, what? Where? Last I checked it was still in pretty much everything.

I thought carrageenan was actually derived from seaweed and generally used as a thickening agent...
