The sexual revolution had consequences. One of those consequences was the break-up of the oligopoly that women had on sex.When they had an oligopoly tightly controlled by societal norms, sex was valuable and they could demand extremely high prices for it-including life long commitments from men. Now that the oligopoly is no longer in place, sex does not command as high a price. This of course does not mean that there are not men who still want to commit for a lifetime, but they are no longer compelled to. There are of course benefits to the sexual revolution as well. Women are not compelled to stay in abusive relationships as an example in order to maintain the social contract that the oligopoly demanded. At the same time, they now have to ply their wares on the open market and that is much more unstable and as a general rule they are less valuable sexually since there are so many others willing to sell at low prices. I guess though that men have pretty much always been in that boat though since we're usually always giving it away for free, so if nothing else the sexual revolution has brought more equality, but equality sometimes equates to loss of privilege.
