(Boing Boing)   Call the cops on your violent husband and they end up killing him? That's a suing. By the Deputy. Against your mother who wasn't even there (link replaced)   ( divider line

What did he think he was there for, if he thought the patient wasn't violent?  If he just didn't want to go with the paramedic, but was sane and stable, there's little the cop could do.  Even before anything was said, which it obviously was, he should have at least realized it was a strong possibility just from having cops called to assist a paramedic who retreated.  I doubt it was due to traffic conditions inside the house.  Did he have no goal at all while walking in to confront the guy?

This is weird, it kind of reminds me of a suit/countersuit strategy, used by apartment dwellers who are about to get evicted.  I wonder if the family first threatened a suit against him and was hoping to get paid, and he just proactively sued.

I guess I'm just doubting that we have the whole story here.

I am a parrot *awwwk*

I guess I'm not in on the joke?

It's April 1st. Fark's philters are running on crazy juice and removing specific letters, changing random words, etc.

Anything you see in this box of words that looks out of place or random was switched by the philter. And I'm purposely spelling that with a 'ph' so the philter doesn't change it to 'wombats'

Nowwwww I get it! Thanks for clueing me in.

Apparently, I was wrong on what gets changed to I'm a parrot. I am requesting someone to enlighten me.

Now that it's te 2nd second, the parrot thing was "You'll get over it"

"This" would have been awesonme, but it would have shown up in the middle of way too many sentences

Never, ever, ever setting a foot on US soil.
Never, ever, ever.

It's official.  We live in a militaristic society dominated by the "protectors" class of police officers who can do whatever they want to us without retaliation.  :-(

Marcus Aurelius: exick: I still think it's unfair for someone calling 911 to be held responsible for failing to do a thorough threat assessment

I'm OK with cops being able to sue us, as long as they're held personally liable for THEIR actions.  It will be a cold day in hell when THAT happens.

In this case, the family would win the countersuit for him killing the father (which would be a more meritorius initial filing), ruining the carpet, and for the pain and suffering of him filing his lawsuit. And it would come out of his own hide, not the taxpayers.

Of course, when they do file this suit they might as well demand that the tooth fairy deliver the check, since it is as likely to happen as the rest of my scenario.

Until the police are held personally liable, both criminally and in civil court like anyone else, the militarization of these goon squads will continue.
