Why? I've been assured numerous times that responsible gun owners never experience accidental discharges, and their bullets magically only target people who really, really deserve it.

So the coffee shop owner announced to any criminal desperate enough to steal from this coffee shop, or any coffee shop really, to shoot first, then rob?

Jesus Christ people, it's like why you don't open carry.  Sure you can open carry in many places, but you don't because in the EXTREMELY UNLIKELY event something goes down and you don't piss your pants in fear first, you're a nice easy first target.

WesternJournalism.com is a blogging platform built for conservative, libertarian, free market and pro-family writers and broadcasters by the Western Center for Journalism

In 1997, Farah created the news website WorldNetDaily as a division of the Western Journalism Center. In 1999, WorldNetDaily was spun off as a for-profit division of the Center. The Center and Farah own a majority of WorldNetDaily's stock.
The Center doesn't include either an address or telephone number on its letterhead, but is believed to be headed by conservative author, speaker and media commentator Floyd Brown.

Floyd Brown is a political innovator, writer and speaker.
His latest book,  Obama Enemies List: How Barack Obama Intimidated America and Stole the Election, was released in January 2013.

From 1988 until 2006, Floyd was the founding chairman of Citizens United. The organization, under his leadership, grew to be the largest conservative citizen advocacy group in America. They launched the movement that led to the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

Floyd's topics include: "Ronald Reagan: His Faith Changed the World", "How To Blog for Influence and Income", "Romans 13: Obey God or Government?" and "How To Protect Your Prosperity in The Face of Government Malfeasance."

your fuzzy little nutbag of a blog... sucks.

founder of World Nut Daily... and this silly citizen/journalist blog...Joseph Francis Farah, 57, of Centreville, Va.,

In 2010, Farah boycotted the Conservative Political Action Conference, the right's most important annual shindig, because it included an LGBT Republican group. He held his own conservative conference instead. Its lineup was a "Who's Who" of far-right luminaries including U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn.), former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Victoria Jackson, former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), anti-gay hate group leader and Christian Reconstructionist theologian Gary DeMar, and R.C. Sproul Jr., a mover-and-shaker in the theocratic Christian "patriarchy" movement and a prominent advocate of homeschooling.

Farah's own formula for revolution is simple: Turn on, tune in, and drop out. "Find a good reliable source of news - like WorldNetDaily.com - and be informed." Buy guns - "more than you think you need." (He notes these are for self-defense and to "preserve freedom.") And above all, withdraw your children from "government schools," those "indoctrination centers" and "brainwashing hubs" run by "statists who seek to steal our children and make a mockery of the family."

If there were any logic to that, you might have a point.

But since there isn't, I'll go with the gun.

I think it's more about being a deterrent. Your average criminal is looking for the easy and quick buck, not a fight.

There is a guy who owns a little deli/check cashing/store next to the projects here in town, he and his guys all open carry while working. As far as I can remember nobody has been shot and his store has never been robbed, while the fast food joints down the street a few blocks get hit every few months.

/Anecdotal evidence is anectodal

No, I was told that very forcefully at the gun store when asking about him about open carry laws.  He said I  was stupid to consider it, since I'd be making myself a target for both cops and "gangbangers".

2014-03-31 8:47:08 PM
According to one of the last comments in the video, the barista won't use her gun until she has one pointing at her.

I'd like to see that, because in my N=1 experience, when that happens, the average person (of which I consider myself, and like her, I grew up with teh guns) is up shiat creek and any move can get them shot unless they have the speed and appropriate barriers to avoid being hit. Especially when that move is reaching for their own safely-stored holstered sidearm, open-carried or not.

Now, if she means that she will come to the aid of a coworker facing the business end, she might be able to make that work. But drawing your own while being held at gunpoint? Nope.

They may as well put the money into some cameras that can get the license plate of the car and a pic of the perp. It would be cheaper, insurance-wise, and cost less in HUMAN LIVES. Duh. Let them have the 78 bucks in the cash register. Why start a shootout?

Not sure why you're rating my opinion a "zero" when I'm pretty much agreeing with everyone who says that, while this may be a DETERRENT, it will pretty much be useless if/when things come down to the wire.

Had I been armed when I was stood up, believe me when I say that something stupid would have gone down, and it probably would have started with my reaching for my sidearm. I was the only employee in the store with no one to help me. It was not time for heroics. Boss installed fake cameras after that, and so far I haven't heard that the place (even though it's moved several locations) has had trouble.

I they have insurance their insurer will probably tell them "lose the guns or pay a higher premium".

// I once worked at a company that had armed security guards until they were disarmed after having too many accidental discharges, however I don't know if this disarming was demanded by insurance.

I think the bigger problem is that now they'll break in or rob the place and demand the gun, which is probably worth several times whatever's in the register. On the other hand, it might keep garden-variety junkies away. Take the good with the bad.

1) Sometimes they kill not to leave witnesses

2) Just because you're armed (CC) doesn't mean you have to use it.

Ask whoever told you that if he has any evidence. You'll get one of two responses, either he won't have any thing beyond "everyone know that's how it works", or he'll know a guy who knows a guy who was targeted.

The closest to the truth the guy got is that most cops don't like OC (which is odd, statistically speaking they are the last people they need to worry about), but nobody is going to shoot you first in a bank robbery if you OC. It just. Doesn't. Happen. Quite the opposite, in fact. Criminals tend to be a cowardly bunch, and they have as much as an aversion to getting shot as anyone else, and have a tendency to just walk away and find a softer target.

A lot of people will say they like the element of surprise you have with CC. Personally, I say fark the element of surprise. It's awesome if you plan on attacking, but if you are on defense whoever looks strongest is the last to be attacked. I'd rather forestall an incident in the first place than hope I can react in time.

We had a guy try to pull a Zimmerman last night and almost get shot by the sheriff department for his troubles. Driving around with open carry, bullet proof vest, and drunk.

It is when he told the cops he was looking for "prowlers" as a reason for doing so.

As an aside, everyone I know who carries does so concealed. There are a few people I'm aware of that will open carry. Their attitudes make me want to stay far away from them, because IMO experience, they're the ones likely to shoot first.

He was going to be targeted by the police OC or not. You could say OC made it somewhat more likely, but that's all. It's not a great example to back up the original statement "OC will make you a target for cops and criminals".

My experience has been the exact opposite. The OC guys have generally been cool, and the CC guys are the ones who seem to be itching to be a hero. I suspect that has much less to do with OC vs CC, and more to do with who I hang out with. The folks I wanted to hang out with happened to OC, and the jackasses I've run into and was forced to be around just happened to CC.
