This is the thread where people pretend that other people's hobbies somehow affect their own lives in negative ways.

Never understood the hate for furries. They seem to be a fairly innocuous lot, unlike, say, the excessively religious.

/ not a furry
// not particularly religious, either

solve4x: jimmy-kray: spot on. there's a real internet trend of people generating ways in which they can make themselves out to be victims of some sort of oppression in order to give their lives some sense of meaning.

understandable in an impersonal modern world where we have so much convenience of technology, etc., and don't really have to struggle, but really sad when you think of how all that passion could be better put to use.

like in the case of furries... if they love animals so much, how awesome would it be if, instead of spending all that time and energy and money into gratifying themselves this way, they volunteered at their local shelter, or raised funds for wildlife charities, or protested bear-baiting, or just did pretty much anything that would actually make a difference to improving the welfare of the animals they claim to identify with so strongly?

They do.  Just about every furry con sponsors a charity.  Anthrocon raised $31,255 for a Horse Rescue last year.

Many furries also do volunteer at animal rescues, perform at hospitals, organize smaller charity events for animals and even sick/dying children. Some become involved in saving people as well, I know of many furries who are also first responders.

:) Yeah its weird. We know it is, we just stopped caring that anyone else thought it was weird and decided to do our own thing ^^

Arachnophobe: How do you have a poker tournament at a Furry convention?

You know the costumes come off, right?

Long story, but I ended up at a furry con.  90% of the people did not have costumes.

jimmy-kray: people are farking weird.

^ This is my favorite part about people. Too bad most of us are less that accepting of all the strange and intricate eccentricities of the human condition.

MaudlinMutantMollusk: Without the Internet, I probably never would have known about such things as Furries and Goatses and Pickles

/Oh my
//somehow I expected more from the 21st century when I was a kid

Yeah, I expected space colonies, flying cars and ultralight gyrocopters operating from every third house. Instead we got Justin Bieber, reality tv and oh, ye gods, bloody Furries. Hello? Russia? Start WW3 any old time you want.
