Patients  mayhave had a insulin  reservoir used on them that  may have been used on others, but no actual needles were possibly shared. Nobody actually observed anyone else  using the used reservoirs, but  onenurse at  some point said to  someone that they could be so used.

Warning the possibly (remotely) affected out of an "abundance of caution" is a bit of a massive understatement... So much so that I wonder if there might be a  hell of a lot more to that story and the risk is much higher than they are implying.

Somehow, the cost/benefit analysis in the minds of the people running this place concluded that the risk of a patient getting HIV was high enough to warrant the enormous bad PR and regulatory scrutiny making this public will cause...

This is (supposedly) nothing more than precaution over a rumor.

Trust me, there is stuff much worse than this that actually goes on at hospitals and you never hear about it.
