While an Irishman would never extend a blessing that included your incarceration, (if you're a friend), he would wish that you were back in jail a half hour before you were paroled.

It's Irish irony.  Or anachronism.  Or something.  It's supposed to be funny, not sad.

Yeah, when I was in Pinal County jail(In Florence, actually) serving off time on a ticket, the guards were talking about a guy who wanted to be 'cool' by keeping his 'County Inmate' shirt. He got all of his paperwork processed, hid the shirt on him, and put it on after he walked out the door. 10 minutes later, he was back in custody, because a local cop thought he had escaped from the jail. He ended up serving 6 more months for stealing county property...
