Mr. Stockman, can I introduce you to Ms. Streisand?

See, if I were running for office it would go a little something like this right off the bat:

"I've been arrested and put in the county jail when I was in my 20's because, like most of us, I was a dumbass in my 20's. I just happened to get caught being a dumbass. I've also picked up fat chicks at closing time, experimented with various illegal substances, drank to excess and puked on somebody else's property. During a period of unemployment, I've fallen behind on my bills. I've wanted to tell the boss to fark off more than once. Hell, I even quit a job without notice one time. In short, I'm pretty much like everybody else that's lived life without having everything handed to them. Any questions?"

I could give two shiats if the guy was busted for having Valium 40 years ago.

His outraged reaction to this is far more enlightening about his character, however.

So what Steve Stockman is saying is that he was arrested for a felony in 1977? Why doesn't Steve Stockman just own the fact he was arrest in 1977 for having drugs? I mean, the fact that Steve Stockman was arrested in 1977 for having Valium wouldn't affect my opinion of whether or not to vote for him. Steve Stockman shouldn't be making a big deal about being arrested in 1977. I mean, I've googled plenty of stuff on google, but until today didn't even know that Steve Stockman was arrested in Michigan in 1977. The fact that Steve Stockman was arrested in 1977 wasn't really a big deal until Steve Stockman decided to put it at the fore of his mind. He (Steve Stockman) obviously didn't think of the Streisand Effect when he decided to go after the people who were talking about Steve Stockman being arrested in Michigan in 1977 with Valium.

Steve Stockman, I have some advice to you about your felony arrest in 1977 in Michigan. That advice is simple: Steve Stockman should embrace his felony arrest in 1977 in Michigan with Valium. Failure to acknowledge, or threatening to sue, anyone posting the old booking photo of your (Steve Stockman) arrest in 1977 in Michigan while possessing Valium is counterproductive.

So he wasn't convicted.
Neither was I.
But he was still arrested.
So was I.
I always disclose my arrest, Mr. Stockman.
And this is why

Darth_Lukecash: My question is this: Was the record supposed to be expunged?  Were the charges dropped?

If these are true, then Stockman has done nothing wrong, nor is his hiding anything.

However, it doesn't really matter, because public record is public record. Freedom of speech and all that.

Expunged arrest records mean you are allowed to truthfully answer "no" to "Have you been arrested..." type questions on employment forms, applications, and other legal documents.  They mean the arrest  legally is treated as if it didn't happen.  However, it still happened in a reality sense, and saying that it happened is absolutely not legally actionable defamation.  We're mocking him for acting as if it is.

rather than being an adult and admitting that as a youth he made a mistake that many others have done.  That perhaps the drug enforcement laws in this nation are too strict and that if he had not had access to the resources he did his life story might be very different.  But no, he acts like a fat asshole.   fark this guy and his human failings.

Jeezus, just own it. Not that he would win anyway, but it definitely shows how clueless and out of touch he is.

So, it sounds like he's not denying that he was arrested and charged with felony possession of Valium, but the charges were dismissed and expunged? And that thus, both of these pictures:

show the same, innocent man?

OK. The press can have fun asking him about whether he thinks drug prosecutions are too lenient, too harsh, or about right; and asking him about whether he rejects the existence of rights such as "innocence until proven guilty in a court of law" that are non-enumerated in the Bill Of Rights.
