porcupine tree: FTFA - "That being said, we bet it's only a few more years 'til spam becomes the filet mignon of red meat."

Wouldn't filet mignon already be the 'filet mignon of red meat'?

Could you imagine being the first cave comedian that told the joke about the first cave guy to eat a lobster or an oyster?

Then like the next epoch some Cro-Mencia steals the joke and does it at the Rocksy to a full house?

RichMeatyTaste: Patagonian toothfish = Chilean Sea Bass.

Amazing how a new name makes it seem all exotic and more tasty.

Shrimp are too. Where I come from, shrimp was the bait we used to catch what we were going to eat. I can't eat shrimp for that reason. Lobster too. Scuttling poop-eaters. Yuk.

LAND                       SEA

Shrimp                    Flies
Birds                       Fish
Clams                     Aquarium Filters

indarwinsshadow: I've never been able to stomach lobster. It's that green sac of whatever that turns my stomach. I'd rather eat a grasshopper or meal worm than a lobster.

I don't even like to touch that green crap when I'm preparing a lobster. I don't even eat the white parts of the abdomen. Just the tail and claw meat.

Also, after you break off the claws it's traditional to wave them around and do a Zoidberg imitation.

It sounds like the big breakthrough was cooking them live.

And with that came a whole new way to make it costly. Imagine if beef were the same way...

I make a pretty good baked stuffed lobster. The trick is to put a bed of good stuffing down in the shell,  interleave scallop slices and the lobster pieces on top of the stuffing, then drizzle it all in a high-quality lobster bisque. The baking part is actually optional if you do it right.

That said, plain lobster is... plain. Lobster absorbs the flavors around it, hence the common use of butter or lemon juice.

I read an article about the Maine coastal islands in which a local reminiscesces about the old days when if they saw someone walking home with a few lobsters they said "There goes a man who can't afford bologna."

I'm allergic to all that nasty crap anyway, so I wonder what people thought when every so often somebody would swell up and choke to death a few minutes after eating it. I also wonder if the Semitic food laws about it have anything to do with that.
