They took Buzz Lightyear's arm completely because of the deadly laser cannon it contained.

Is it so wrong to want an airplane to reach for the sky?

A spokesperson for the Department For Transport said: 'We do not comment on specific incidents or details of our security regime.
'Airports and airlines can use their discretion to remove any item being carried in hand luggage when they believe it may be perceived as a threat.'

Yes, we know, everyone gets the policy by now.  The point is that you're an idiot for thinking anyone would perceive this as a threat.

A lot of people are fond of starting online petitions for stupid shiat. When will they try one for getting rid of the security theatre?

Heard about this on Reddit. The idiocy burns bright for the ones confiscating the gun.

He's no longer mint condition. I mean, he really wasn't since Little Bo Peep got her hook on him but most collectors don't look there. Best he can hope for now is to get nailed to a wall at Applebees.

Perfectly reasonable. Choking hazard.

Ever tried landing a plane while choking on a toy gun? Yeah, exactly.

Common sense gun restrictions!!

2014-02-11 12:38:00 PM
Could be worse. Woody could have been smuggling donkey penis.

If we just put miniature guns on all of our toys, this wouldn't be a problem.

It's like they gave 6-year-olds jobs.

2014-02-11 12:40:01 PM
Just be glad he didn't bring the toy into JFK, Atlanta, etc. They probably have a gun to the kid's head and arrest them all.

As someone has already mentioned, Woody doesn't have a gun; he does have a holster.  My two year old loves Toy Story and I have bought two of the full size Woody dolls (the first one was broken by the fore-mentioned two year old).  Neither doll came with a gun.  I am wondering where that gun actually came from.  Perhaps it was a real threat and the glorious airport officials actually prevented a hijacking.

CSB:

Back when this movie wasn't quite so long in the tooth, my kid wanted to go to school Halloween time in a Toy Story Woody the Cowboy costume. Obviously a toy gun was out. So I made a giant fake strike-anywhere match from a large balsa stick by repeated dipping in red wax, followed by a shallow dip in white for the striker. And put that in the holster (Like Sid did in the movie)

Bet the TSA would have a problem with that too.

/unless said giant match was bought in one of the stores past the checkpoint.

I find it funny because my wife accidentally carried a pocket knife through there. She later had it confiscated at the London Eye.

Well, there is a place for you in our mosque.  It's a position specially made for folks whose opinions of Westerners is less than favorable.  You need only complete a one-time task, and you receive 72 pure females with whom you may do whatever you please.  And you and your family will be hailed as heroes in your name.  Now, let's try on your new jacket.  At this point it's best not to ask why it's heavy and has buttons.

Ten things that might be guns.

1. Cellphones
2. Umbrellas
3. Lady's Compacts
4. Ipods
5. Laptops
6. Shoes
7. Pens
8. Laser pointers
9. Model guns
10. Plush animals

One thing that is definitely not a gun:

1. A plastic toy gun smaller than a pound coin.

Hey, we don't write the rules, we just enforce them. I have worked for the TSA and I can tell you these procedures are not only fair but they are fairly enforced. We had buckets of the stuff in storage resulting from seizures from children. That toy gun may not look like much under casual observation but if someone had pulled it on you on an airplane? Even a child? That can easily be a scenario we have to anticipate. Believe me, taking away the kids toys in front of Dad or Gramps? Not fun, this is why we have garbage cans everywhere in the line, most times we have to throw away children's toys for them.

You're right. If someone, even a child, pulled that toy gun on me while the plane was in flight I'd be in danger of pissing myself from laughing so hard and the perp would be in danger of having the gun, the doll and his head rammed up his a$$.

Where in the rules does it say that a shirt with a picture of a gun on it is a violation?  How about a book with pictures of airplanes?  Your colleagues have had people arrested for trying to take both of these through security.

What about when y'all confiscated a pregnant woman's insulin?  Where is that in the rules?

"Just following orders" is a lame excuse, but it's pretty clear to the public that most TSOs are actually just making up the rules as they go along.

Just like the police, Even the good TSOs don't correct their fellow officers when they're being assholes. In fact, they go to extremes to cover for them. Who's policing the policers if they don't police themselves? Somebody in that mass of blueshirts should recognize the assholery being inflicted on the citizenry and say something. They hire shovel attendants and don't supervise them, but expect them the citizens to obey them, no matter how asinine it gets.

I dunno, I've been through Heathrow a number of times and I thought it was always efficient.  They have someone visually inspecting your bag of "liquids" and they don't buy into the shoe bomb hysteria and specifically tell you (americans) to leave your shoes on.  I was wanded my first time through because my belt set off the metal detector (it goes through just fine in the states...).  My bad and the agent joked with me for the 30 second scan.  I have no love for the TSA retards we employ and try to veil my contempt as I pass through security.

whosits_112: fnordfocus: Fizics: Hey, we don't write the rules, we just enforce them.

You know who else was just following orders?

mbillips: This is a working firearm (2mm pinfire). So they're not completely unhinged, just sort of ridiculous with this stuff.

I see this has been covered.  As a matter of fact, that gun in the TSA's hand (which he is idiotically aiming at his face) looks almost 100% like that one.  If you notice the difference between the trigger of the TSA gun and the keychain fake one, it even looks like it's workable and not just for show.  Flat where the finger would go; not sharp.

So...I'm not so sure they're being so stupid after all with this one case.  The keychain confiscation is a bit much, though.

I'm calling shenanigans.  As the article stated, the doll doesn't come with a gun and that picture is FAR too perfect to have been taken on a whim and with a security person right there.  Plus, wouldn't the passenger's camera or phone be in the bin with the other two items?

Fizics: Hey, we don't write the rules, we just enforce them.

7/10, started strong but wandered off the rail a bit.

I'd wager any projective fired from that couldn't even break skin.

I'm sticking with "unhinged".

Infobahn: xanadian: Again?  Didn't something similar happen not too long ago?

Yup.

I think it was LAX and homemade sock puppet last time.

WhoGAS: that gun in the TSA's hand (which he is idiotically aiming at his face)

Wanted to note this.

If you're going to treat everything that looks like a firearm as a threat, you should also treat it like a firearm and not look down what would be the barrel if it actually was a threat.

firemanbuck: I was wanded my first time through because my belt set off the metal detector (it goes through just fine in the states...).

Yeah and like 1/2 of the other retards in line don't take their metal items off either, even though security is telling everyone to do so the entire time.
There's one person in each line to do the pat downs, so each line gets held up while they do their pat downs on everyone. Meanwhile they take for farking ever to comb through carry on luggage. It sucks, it's slow, the various lines to get in at the start seem disorganized, and that's after some other line you have to wait in just for the sake of waiting in a line queue.

Oh but you get to keep your shoes on. Golf clap. I'll take the TSA over Heathrow any day.
