(USA Today)   New Yorkers push to have new Tappan Zee Bridge named after the late Pete Seeger - because if anything honors Seeger's legacy, it'd be a five-billion dollar eight-lane-wide commuter-clogged monument to sprawl and air pollution   ( usatoday.com) divider line

my csb

when I was in college in the early 90s I made extra money doing sound for bands.  Mostly moving equipment.  My lack of musical talent or any kind of ear for it relegated me to mixing the monitors for the band.  We did a gig for Pete Seeger.  I never heard of him or his music as I was young and plenty dumb.  He came into the stage early.  Made  a point to meet all of us.  Personally.  The guy went way out of his way to spend enough time with the backstage people to know their names, age and a little of their life.  All before the opening act.  Then when he came on stage he was simply brilliant.  He played all of the standards he was expected to play.  The people who came to the concert were more knowledgeable of his songs than me,  They loved the show.  I never heard most of the songs and am the polar opposite politically of all of his songs.  I loved the show.  I am so glad to have met him.  He is the genuine article.  He loved people and the world is far better having him lived on it.  He is as good as they come.

Why can't it just be called the Tappan Zee Bridge?  I presume they're currently building a shiny new bridge to, you know, get rid of the old one.  And after all, the first one was named after the part of the Hudson it goes over.

I hate this 'let's name all the bridges after people!' thing.

\\Renaming the Triborough was the worst offender of this. RFK bridge my ass.  It's still the Triborough.

Anything named after Woody Guthrie? After all, his commie pinko song "This land is my land" is pretty much a standard these days. Woody first, then Pete.

Pete Seeger was a national treasure.

The Tappan Zee Bridge is going to kill several thousand people some day.

Rename half of the shiat named after Reagan and I'll be good.  Pete Seeger National Airport.  Sounds nice.

How about not spending any time or money worrying whom to name it after till you get the old death trap replaced.
