Dwight_Yeast: Egoy3k: Yeah by all means lets bankrupt food distributors so when we have regional droughts people starve. It costs less (in money and carbon emissions) to ship apples around the world than it does to preserve them for a year.If they're being shipped they're still being preserved (in nitrogen).
Dwight_Yeast: Well, notionally, you're supposed to have stock-piled potatoes, onions, turnips, and other root vegetables to eat during the winter.
Cold_Sassy: Well, you knock yourself out and enjoy your tainted food from abroad, but not me.
Cold_Sassy: And the person who said good corn is available in the winter in the frozen foods aisle - WTF?!?
Pwnzor: People really need to learn to eat locally and seasonally. Human beings don't need access to every single fruit and vegetable all the time. In the Northeast US, there are no good tomatoes or peaches in the winter. There are no good pears or corn to eat in the Spring. Apples in the summer are horrible. Eat what's locally in season and it will always be fresh and delicious and you might actually get more satisfaction because you will learn to look forward to the next season's harvest.
