The local news around here (Fox Philly, Action News, NBC 10, Eyewitness News) were practically begging this to be 20 kids running around like it was Vietnam.. You would have sworn it was Columbine.. That's how bad they wanted this to be more than it was.. farking animals.. It was just an asshole inner city kid with a gun... Nothing more.

Confabulat: Didn't we already have one this week?

I didn't realize we had a quota.

2014-01-17 8:14:36 PM
Clearly we need to ban charter schools.

Earlier, police used Twitter to urge the suspected shooter to turn himself or herself in.

I know when I go on a shooting rampage I always stop and take time to check my Twitter feed.

2 students wounded in Philadelphia high school shooting

Same thing happens in Detroit. Headlines read: Happy Tuesday.

2014-01-17 8:15:25 PM
two 15-year-old students had been shot in the gymnasium

OOO, that's going to take awhile to heal...

2014-01-17 8:15:47 PM
What's the big deal, no one died.

Come on, it is just a law abiding citizen exercising his constitutional rights.

Almost as bad as in the lavatory

Instead of informing of us when there is a school shooting (or any shooting for that matter), just tell us when we have a comfortable day of peace.

Hmm, no? Peace is antithetical to the foundation of these United Sates?

Oh well. Maybe next time.

"SHOOTER - Turn yourself in. Get it over with now," they said.

No hashtag?

Local television station 6ABC reported that two 15-year-old students, one male and one female, had been shot in the school gymnasium

More dodge-ball related violence? WHEN WILL THE NIGHTMARE END?

That game was sent from the darkest gymnasiums of Hell!

And when cops publicly urge criminals to turn themselves in, the criminal usually stops and says, "They have a point".

I like where the story says it adds to the debate on gun control.  What debate?   We had the debate and the NRA and their political supporters won.  Now we are living with that outcome.  Of course had every proposed legislative remedy to gun violence been passed into law, it is likely we would still be having these events.  Mentally ill or motivated individuals can and will find weapons to use in committing their harm.

2014-01-17 8:20:59 PM
I didn't know you could sponsor these things. Seems like a terrible idea.

If twenty-some primary kids murdered won't move people to force moderation in gun laws, this sure won't.

Me too, West Philly here.
One day I was shooting hoops on the school playground and some thugs started making trouble.
That's when I pulled my glock and took care of business.
I moved to Missouri not long after that.

Only 2.  No one died.

Huh.   Why is this national news again?

Or possibly "Huzzah, a 0 death shooting in the city is national news.  That means that there aren't any 20 death rampages through suburban elementary schools with no cops on duty to be making a big deal of.  Progress."

/And for the anti-gun people, have you really thought out the implications of 3D printers and banning guns?  Sure, you can make it illegal, but since when has THAT stopped anybody.

3D printers make shiatty single use inaccurate weapons. Maybe they will get better with better materials and designs but right now who the hell cares about 3D weapons.  It is the hundreds of millions of previously manufactured high quality weapons in hundreds of millions of citizens hands that is the real barrier to any gun ban.

I moved out here 20 years ago from King of Prussia. Only been back a few times to the city and holy cow. i wish I would have been able to take pictures of the same spot just to emphasize your point. Reading seems to have gotten better, but everything from Birdsboro to the city is a crater.

Same here. I was usually one of the last standing, being tiny and elusive like a ferret. Of course, we always eventually lost since I also had the throwing ability of a ferret.

FTFA: "Police said they were not providing details about the suspect, citing his age. Police had tweeted that the suspect was a student at the school."

If you cite his age, gender, and the fact that he's a student at the school, aren't you doing exactly that (providing details about the suspect), dumbasses??

The best one so far was that California assemblyman that wants the law requiring 3d printed guns to have metallic  plates in em so they can be seen by airport scanners, so remember if you print one to smuggle into the secure area of an airport ya better have the required plate or you are breaking the law!

/Don't see what the panic over printed guns is, back before the automatic weapons ban I made a sten gun using a copy of plans the Brits passed out to the French resistance in WWII, minimal machining or skill needed, barrel wasn't rifled so accuracy sucked, but it only took me about 4 hours to make

Sure, you can punish them after the fact (assuming they don't suicide), but the goal is to either:

* Shut them down before they go on a rampage (very much preferred)
* Shut them down very early on in their rampage before they kill lots of people.

And a couple generation's worth of iterations on 3D printers will make #1 very, very difficult to do 100% of the time without going full-on 1984 dystopia.  Way harder than it is now.
