saburai: Formally, a "selfie" is "a type of self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera." And it is usually assumed that the subject is in direct control of the camera. However, it is within reasonable bounds of artistic license to say that a burglar who walks directly up to a security camera and stares into it has intentionally, if not necessarily wittingly, taken a selfie.

In any event, it was the word used in the original link's headline, and I have no compunction about cannibalizing original material (what is Fark, if not a massive Internet recycler?).

Grammar Nazis and Grammar-Nazi Nazis should calm down and recognize that our real enemies are people who confuse "their," "they're," and "there."

Wrong.  There is a difference between a "self portrait" and a "portrait of you".

A self portrait (where selfie comes from) is one made by you.
