If the video in TFA is any indication, it's four hours of time for four skilled people with scaffolding and a forklift.

I can't understand why they keep repeating that it doesn't require planning permission because it's under 10 feet tall then goes on to say it's three stories. So each story is 3.3333 feet tall?

It's not 3 full stories.

There is a "ground floor", then a "second story", which is actually a raised 3 foot high platform, and the bed is suspended from the ceiling making the "third story".

Since the bathroom and kitchen facilities appear to all be on that raised platform, I assume they are that way because the plumbing/hot water heater/furnace/electrical stuff is all under that platform.

Given the lack of railings and such, though, it's probably not the sort of house you want to get falling-down drunk in.

The "staircase" is actually 3 wooden boxes that also form a bookshelf.  "Staircase" is a grand name for such a modest arrangement.  I'd call them "steps".

Well at the 15k range you get 4 walls, a floor and a cieling.  If you want for only 35 you can have internal wall coverings and insulation.  But as a plus the designer will come over and let you sit in his lap.

however it would obviously take longer when you add I'm the furniture, it depends how quickly you work.

Somewhat dubious about the 4 hour claim. My mother bought a pre-fab garden shed. Naturally, she having long been divorced and no boyfriend prospect in sight, I got to build it. Just locating and identifying all the parts, with their crudely-stamped, near-illegible code numbers took 4 hours. I could have assembled a stronger, more durable structure in about half the time it actually took to assemble her shed, if I had started with a pencil sketch on the back of a cocktail napkin, a pile of 2x4s, a few sheet metal brackets, and some sheets of 1/2" and 3/4" OSB. The material cost wouldn't have been wildly different, either.

What about affording the land to put it on?

That's my issue with Habitat for Humanity.  Sure, volunteer labor can build a house.  But rather than buy a dozen plots of land and house a dozen families, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy one plot of land and build an apartment building that could house those same families?  I'll bet the heating bill would be lower, too.

I am just now looking to buy a house. I would love to get something like this to put in the back yard as a guest house if I could find something like it in New England and I didn't think that permitting would be a nightmare.
