I don't know- I travel over lots of speed bumps, and in a very poor handling SUV. Never had any problems.

I wonder what the difference cold be?

We had something similar to this in San Diego recently.

The parents of a young man killed in a crash actually said that if the road didn't have dips in it their boy would not have lost control while doing in excess of 100 miles per hour. I will admit to taking those dips at a speed slightly higher than the posted limit but that's only so I can watch my wife's boobs jiggle.

yes, they were driving like assholes. However, pisses me off that my town spent millions to fix a road so it is perfectly smooth and then put in speed bumps every 1/4 mile.

Actually, subby, you left part of it out. Of course, it doesn't have the sensationalistic 'pop' when you include the full sentence:

You could always do what my town did. Build wide smooth 4-lane roads with a speed limit of 55 and then suddenly lower it to 45 and station cops at the speed limit change.

/the town also lowered several 45mph roads to 35mph and now they camp out there too

It's a driver's car. When there is a fark up, the fault lies entirely with the driver. The car far from sucks and is intended to engage every aspect of driving skill. The driver thought he didn't suck, and I am not saying he does, at driving 911s, that is. I just don't think he had enough experience with this car, as shown by putting stickier tires on it and not keeping the MFG suggested tires on the car, and then did things he should not have done in that car, and I think it was overconfidence in skills from driving other cars that resulted in this death.

I think these dots are not really speed bumps - just the reminders to keep you in your lane (although its hard to tell from the picture). Plus to quote from the article:

"a car going speeds approaching 90 MPH will lose traction after hitting a series of Botts' Dots "

I guess this "proves" the driver was driving in an unsafe manner.

Those dots are in Dallas too, as lane markers. Never knew what they were called and I lived there for 4 years.

They made getting over into another lane interesting, but I never took them at 90 mph.

I don't understand. If the driver wanted to drive stupidly/recklessly (and assuming Walker didn't encourage him), why didn't they just go rent a track* to turn the car loose? Why get stupid on surface streets?

*- or whatever famous/rich people do to drive cars at blistering speed

It is a shame he died but what killed him was letting a friend drive his supercar like an ass on regular streets. If you want to drive your supercar like an ass go to a track where there are not curbs or trees to run into.

I cannot wait for these reconstruction experts to explain how metal & plastic objects cause "hydroplaning." Sudden and unexpected loss of grip, especially so if you are using racing tires, maybe, but unless these also exude some form of liquid, this statement makes them sound dumb.

His friend was both the owner AND the driver of the car- Paul was just the passenger. We have no way to know if he encouraged his friend to drive like an ass or was screaming for him to slow down. Can't blame the victim in this case...

Ha. If the "experts" truly believe those small bumps caused the accident, then it's been A Miracle on 34th St. all over the country for a long time.

BS theory is BS.

The family should be lecturing others on the dangers of speeding and reckless driving, not making up stuff that will go hand in hand to kill others later on by poor example, i.e., "Duh, da walker's family said I can go 120 on any street, but look out for the small road bump dealies!"

Probably not, since the car involved is extremely touchy. Jesus, this shiat was all covered last week. The Porsche is basically a race car with a price tag on the window. If you read the article, you'd notice that. If you'd paid attention last week, you'd know that.

adam carolla said of the unfortunate incident, "it must have sucked to be Paul Walker, because every time he got into someone's car, you know that person felt the need to impress him; 'gotcher seatbelt on? i wanna show you what this baby can do!' For all we know he was probably begging the driver to slow down."

joe rogan was also talking about it, moreso the car. he has a professional driver friend that, if i get it correctly, will not drive that car. says it is too powerful and the suspension too raw (my words, not his). i guess the mid-engine design has a totally different distribution of weight that, if you aren't an experienced driver, the turning / distribution of weight coupled with the racing suspension, is just a firecracker of a car.

carolla also talked about the car, i think how noted professional race car driver Jay Leno spun his Carerra out 3 times at some race.

i thinkt he story Rogan told was this friend of his drove it at a track, but cut the session short and said afterwards that the car was too dangerous. something like that. dude was like, "nope, not me, fark that car, yo."

I blame the driver only because that person was a pro racer and should have known better, it's like Mario Andretti driving around LA like it's Need for Speed. You're gonna crash sooner or later.
