"Take that, East St. Louis!"
-- Comic Book Guy
2001-12-05 01:01:17 PM
Our Special Forces can get "rained out"?! We're doomed.
2001-12-05 01:01:34 PM
"About nine special operations choppers from Fort Campbell, Kent., appeared in the night sky right around 9 p.m. They looked like helicopters on a secret mission, which is exactly what they were doing, hovering and darting around homes and buildings."

Jesus! And they didn't bother to tell anyone? What the hell's up with dat?!
2001-12-05 01:02:06 PM
crap. Tag closed.
2001-12-05 01:02:09 PM
The original maneuver was scheduled for November 28 and 29, but it was rained out.

So they can only kick the terrorists' ass if it's not raining?
2001-12-05 01:02:44 PM
Travel Agent Guy: "East St. Louis?"
Homer Simpson : "Is there any other?"
2001-12-05 01:02:54 PM
I live less than a mile from Quantico, I get everything, choppers and jets zoming over my house and the sounds of bombs and morters exploding. I watched F18's drop bombs all day Saturday. I think it's really cool though it does freak out some of my guests.
2001-12-05 01:03:28 PM
They were probably thinking it was the DEA comming to swipe their stashes.

I agree it's rather pathetic that the 101st Div. can get rained out.
2001-12-05 01:05:08 PM
I didn't think anything could scare E. Saint Louis. Saint Louis is scared of E. Saint Louis.
2001-12-05 01:06:41 PM
Kentucky is invading Illinois...run!
2001-12-05 01:08:56 PM
E. st. louis being the most central of all US cities would ofcourse be the first place to be attacked.
2001-12-05 01:11:49 PM
Overpaid Slacker: ROFLMAO! I agree. In all seriousness, if we can't bring our special ops out in the rain, the terrorists are going to win!
2001-12-05 01:15:38 PM
Yes, training get's rained out. I was in the Army and when it comes to training with anything that might be life threatening, they (the military) were pretty anal about safety.
2001-12-05 01:20:52 PM
Ashcroft is just warming up for the martial law he has planned. Has anyone noticed that everytime there is a lull and public opnion makes the stightest shift away form tribunals, unconstitutional detentions, etc. we have another "unspecified threat" and go on high alert?
2001-12-05 01:21:36 PM
Living in St. Louis, I'd have to say those Special Ops guys are damn lucky the residents of East St. Louis didn't open fire....
2001-12-05 01:22:56 PM
Surprise Fb impregnations scare the crap out of East St. Louis
2001-12-05 01:23:13 PM
Or maybe the government isn't all in a giant conspiracy to make the US a fascist state and they just got a tip that something is going down.
2001-12-05 01:24:59 PM
i'm sure if they used live ammo on east st. louis no one would mind. it would probably spur a growth in the area if they demolished all of the abandoned buildings leaving clear lots to build anew. but leave PT's alone, because that is the center of east st. louis' art culture and where all the dollar bills of the area are used.
2001-12-05 01:26:02 PM
"Warning?! We don't give no farkin' warning!"
2001-12-05 01:26:13 PM
Just said it is peculiar. Didn't make any accusations.
I still think Ashcroft is a Nazi. I have said that since he was nominated and I will say it until he grows his little mustache and starts wearing calf high patent leather boots.
2001-12-05 01:27:58 PM
Damn. Don Johnson's changed since he was on Miami Vice...

[image from kmov.com too old to be available]
2001-12-05 01:28:45 PM
OK, so I accused Ashcroft of being a Nazi, but I didn't say anything about a conspiracy. Lol.
2001-12-05 01:34:50 PM
E. St. Louey...perfect target. all the bldgs were already bombed out though.
2001-12-05 01:38:56 PM
They dashed up here to East St. Louis to simulate quick movements needed to approach an urban war zone.

An almost perfect description.
2001-12-05 01:48:34 PM
Why didn't they blow up East St. Louis? Its an ugly place. :p
2001-12-05 01:49:06 PM
I get scared every time I see an AF jet flying overhead... i was in LA (long beach) two weeks ago, and we were on the beach when four or five jets flew overhead out to the ocean.... got me all freaked out that the japanese were coming or something.

I think i need professional help. I'm way too on edge anymore. I work a 1/2 mile north of the WTC. I just bought KI pills --- potassium iodine, saves the thyroid from radioactive iodine in the event of nuclear goings-ons.
2001-12-05 02:01:17 PM
Why don't they go into the criminal heart of a major city. That should prove to be some real training.
2001-12-05 02:20:55 PM
Mmmmdave: Stop being a wuss. I work downtown and live on River Terrace (Battery Park City - NYC) and I haven't bought anything. Pussy.
2001-12-05 02:24:06 PM
I see this stuff all the time. I live near Fort Dix and McGuires Air Force Base and I see planes and hear the army practicing all the time.
2001-12-05 02:26:37 PM
"They dashed up here to East St. Louis to simulate quick movements needed to approach an urban war zone. "

Just because they were told to simulate approaching an urban war zone doesn't mean they have to go to an actual urban war zone! sending new recruits to East St. Louis... sheesh!
2001-12-05 02:30:12 PM
Bubba: I miss the days when i was blissfully ignorant.

There's nothing wrong with being prepared. To not prepare yourself out of some stupid macho no-fear attitude is dumb. When the armaggedon comes, I may last a few days longer than everyone else. Whoopee!
2001-12-05 02:35:50 PM
That's just a few more days you get to watch all your skin slough off into a big, greasy, hairy pile. :)

Wow ... just grossed myself out with that image ... ugh. But regardless, I agree with your attitude. It's like the women who go through childbirth drug free ... what's the friggin POINT? If you came to the hospital with a broken leg, you wouldn't shun painkillers because you're too tough ... it's no different!

Ok I am done ranting now. : )
2001-12-05 02:37:07 PM
IMO, if our military can't toy with East St. Louis, then the terrorists have already won.
2001-12-05 02:37:31 PM
I think it was the civilians who were being "trained".
2001-12-05 02:38:43 PM
...and to cower in fear buying 'TERRORIST SURVIVAL' magazines at the grocery store while popping Cipro & freaking out at every plane you hear is equally dumb.
2001-12-05 02:39:53 PM
technically, the stuff i got protects me from thyroid cancer 30 years down the road. It's not much, but it's something... consider the incredible amounts of thyroid cancer since Chernobyl over there. This protects you.

Every little bit helps.
2001-12-05 02:43:42 PM

If NYC get whopped by 'nuclear goings-on', your thyroid will be the least of your freakin worries
2001-12-05 02:48:07 PM
but if they blow up Indian Point nuclear power station and the city is in the fallout path, then i'll be mighty glad i have those pills, and that I'm not lining up in queue's 100,000 people long waiting for the govt to give them to me.

I was a boy scout. prepared!
2001-12-05 02:49:58 PM
Just thinkin....but why East St. Louis? Why not like the Bronx or maybe Harlem or some seedy part of other major cities...I mean think about it....a bunch of gang members getting ready to fight....then about 9 Attack Helicopters pop up.....people start repelling out of the helicopters I mean 1 of two things is gonna happen:

1) Gang members pee pants
2) News headline....Military Training gone awry

More random ramblings. =)
2001-12-05 02:56:37 PM
St. Louis?

No. Navin R. Johnson.
2001-12-05 02:59:49 PM
East St. Louis should have the crap scared out of them every once in a while. Except not too often....that's where I go gambling at.
2001-12-05 03:08:10 PM
Awesome "The Jerk" reference. Love it.

Has anyone considered that they chose E. St. Louis because it 1) has a lot of empty buildings, thereby reducing the chance of civilian casualties should a chopper go down, and 2) is actually an inhabited metropolitan area, thereby providing a relatively realistic training ground.

I don't know how many such sites like this there are between Kentucky and E. St. Louis, but this seems like a plausible explanation.
2001-12-05 03:10:37 PM
Right after the threats against the Golden Gate bridge were reported, there was a black Helicopter flying all over Portland, nonstop. It was a bit unnerving, as we are known as 'The bridge city'.

I imagine it was to monitor activities, but still..pretty nerve wrecking.
2001-12-05 03:11:26 PM
I'm surprised anyone in E. STL could hear the helicopters over the thumping bass in strip clubs. Let's just say when someone says "The East Side" here in STL, there can be no other definition for what you're wanting to do.
2001-12-05 03:24:42 PM
drugs....lots and lots of drugs
2001-12-05 03:27:53 PM
Nfliction: You obviously have not been to E. St. Louis. When it comes to "seedy," E. St. Lou makes the Bronx and Harlem look like the set of Mr. Rogers Nieghborhood.
2001-12-05 03:28:41 PM
I find it somewhat disturbing how most Farkers are in two camps:

(1) Everything the government is doing is a-ok and anyone who opposes it supports the terrorists!

(2) The US Government fascist PIGS are out to steal all our civil rights, Ashcroft is a Nazi, Bush is Hitler, America is Satan ... (ok, maybe going a bit overboard.)

But I do hope they are sending battle-hardened veterans to E-Town, cuz I wouldn't want to send green troops to that area.

2001-12-05 03:29:45 PM
Yes, please don't crash into Roxy's, PT's, or Diamond Cabaret!

shiat, I bet the residents of E. STL had more firepower than those stinkin' helicopters anyway.
2001-12-05 03:42:57 PM
Yeah, go train in Kandahar.
2001-12-05 04:01:37 PM
they only "live" training in Kandahar. They practice dropping 2,000 pounders on our own guys.
