Phil Moskowitz: The continued existence of this league has fascinated me for 30 years.

How so?  The quality of play is superb, second only to the NFL, and a closer second than is usually claimed.  At the highest professional levels in most sports only a step here or ten pounds there is enough to make the difference between players being in the top league or in "AAA"...

A couple of years ago I crunched some average numbers from four random CFL teams and four random NFL teams (data from their websites) to help a nephew of mine write a term paper in his University program..   There are surprising differences and some long-held 'truths' are not borne out

Position                     CFL   Ht      Wt                 NFL       Ht     Wt
QB                                      6'2"    212                            6'4"   226
Center                                6'2"    313                            6'3"    294
OG NG Tackles etc            6'4"    292                            6'4"    315
Runningback/slotback        6'0"    218                            5'10"   212
wide rec.                            6'1"    203                            6'0"      202
Def. end                             6'3"     251                           6'4"     279
Linebacker                         6'1"    222                            6'2"    244
Def. Backs                          6'0"    193                            6'0"    205

Interesting, no?
