(My Fox NY)   If you own a Civil War cannon and enjoy firing it at your neighbors, then you probably don't want to move to Kiantone, New York. Seems the people there are a little uptight and such activity is frowned upon   ( myfoxny.com) divider line

Gyrfalcon: Old_Chief_Scott: I wonder if it would be OK to fire a trebuchet.

Is that the correct nomenclature? "Launch" a trebuchet?

OK to fire a trebuchet.

I grew up in upstate NY and our neighbor had a cannon that he would fire off every so often, especially the 4th of July.  No one cared since the cannon could not fire over the property line and a few big booms every so often were no big deal.  I even used to "serve" on the gun crew for special occasions.

It sounds like this guy did not have the property for the cannon, and was firing it mostly to annoy his neighbors.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: Responsible Gun Owner.

Actually he is.  He fired it with just powder and packing, no cannonballs.

lack of warmth:  The guys across the water at Fort Mackinac are also fun to watch shoot their cannon.

I was right below them once when they fired and since I wasn't anticipating it, I couldn't crap for two days. It was definitely  a sphincter tightening experience. You can quote me on that.

"Police confiscated the cannon. " They came for the cannon first, but I did nothing, because I didn't have a cannon......

I've seen this one fired a few times in New Ulm, MN. They tell you to stand back because it's really, really loud.
They Lied. It's really, really, really f-ing loud. Stand way, way back.

Yeah, we handle conflict a little differently in these parts.

I've known his daughter for years. I'm assuming there's much more to the story, but she's not really excited to discuss it.
