I liked that movie.  I saw that not only as Wendell Scott's story, but of a time when drivers could work hard enough to get in on their own.  Now, drivers pretty much have to be sponsored since they were little children.  All the new up and comings have been go-cart drivers at 8 yro, then just keep shining as they grow up, or they are hand picked to make the sport look like it is changing.  Chances are, if your parents didn't have the money or connections in serious go-cart racing, you will only be watching the race.  Even the pit crews have gotten to the point the tire carrier has secondary education at a special school.

bluorangefyre: Foxxinnia: It's odd that NASCAR actually lost diversity over the years. Like in the early years there was a pretty good population of female drivers.

And now we have Danica, who only runs well at Daytona and Talladega.

Where all the cars are restricted and the turns are easier.
