Yes, actually. It has some very nice optical properties at the nanoscale, which can be REALLY USEFUL for a lot of things (including medical applications). Also we like gold in nanophysics because gold nanospheres/rods/etc don't farking OXIDIZE NEAR INSTANTLY like the silver rods/spheres do.
